Types
Mica band heaters are manufactured by enclosing a precision wound nickel-chromium resistance ribbon inside a specially treated steel sheath. Mica is used to insulate the resistance ribbon from shorting out against the outer steel sheath. Ceramic band heaters are designed with spirally wound inner resistance coils evenly threaded through interlocking insulated ceramic “tiles”. The ceramic core, or “mat” of tiles is housed beneath a stainless steel sheet with serrated edges.
