Description

Plastic Processing Heating Element of Cartridge Heater is a heavy-duty, industrial joule heating element electrical resistance with a tube form that is used in the process heating industry. These heaters are often custom made to a specified watt density based on its intended function. They are tightly packed and may achieve surface watt densities of up to 50 W/cm2.

The cartridge heater may be split up into seven primary components:

Lead wire type, watt density, sealing, sheath, insulation, and sheath

To keep the Nichrome coil from making contact with the sheath, insulation is required. In the event that such an occurrence occurred, it would ground the resistance and perhaps result in a catastrophic short-circuit, melting the sheath and causing significant equipment failure. By establishing a ground fault interrupting circuit, damage can be reduced. The coil is placed into the sheath to keep it from contacting it, and then it is quickly filled with magnesium oxide (MgO). The cartridge heater is vibratory filled to make sure that the MgO fills the vacant area between the sheath and the coil.

The portion of the cartridge heater that makes contact with the object that has to be heated is called the sheath. Depending on the kind of application, such as strongly acidic or corrosive settings, different metal alloys are employed. Sheaths are most frequently made of Incoloy 800, 304 stainless steel, and 316 stainless steel. The greatest temperature rating belongs to Incoloy, which is a Superalloy.

The open end of the cartridge heater, where the Nicrome coil was inserted, is sealed once the cartridge heater has been filled with MgO to stop the coil and the MgO from escaping. Additionally, it stops contaminants like plastic fragments, air, or moisture from entering the heater.
