Are there other methods to clean color-changing silicone?

There are currently no other safe and effective cleaning methods to replace rinsing with water or wiping with alcohol for treatment of color-changing silicone. All procedures are to be completed without destruction of the microporous structure of the material and chemical solvents and ultrasonic cleaning are to be avoided. 1. Why only water and alcohol are recommended? The porous silica structure and a humidity indicator (such cobalt chloride) are the main ingredients in colour shifting silica gel. Strong solvent or rough handling can irreparably damage: Method Rationale Rinse with water Recommended Removes just the surface dust and water soluble pollutants, does not harm micropores Wiping with 75% isopropyl alcohol Acceptable (localised) can remove organic residues but be careful not to over-penetrate Prohibited Solvent, e.g., acetone, petrol, detergent Clog or corrode micropores, causing irreversible loss of adsorption function Ultrasonic cleaning Not recommended Particle breakdown and structural integrity damage are easily caused by high-frequency vibration Boiling treatment Not recommended It is difficult to eliminate the moisture fully and is prone to burst during regeneration. Laboratory standard cleaning processes are confined to physical removal + high temperature regeneration without chemical cleaning steps. 2. Other Methods of Cleaning, Not Including Cleanin Although these treatments may not actually "clean," they may decrease the effects of contamination: (1) Sieving Method (for powdery or mixed environment) Use a fine mesh sieve to remove silica gel particles from dust and debris. This is only for physical contamination and does not remove chemically adsorbed compounds. (2) Airing and Settling Method (for slight odour remnant) Place the silica gel in a dry, ventilated location for 24 hours for volatile odours to naturally evaporate; Ideal for low risk environments when interaction with perfumes, skincare items etc. is short. These procedures do not replace cleaning but are merely pretreatments to be employed. 3. Important Reminder: Cleaning ≠ Regeneration Regeneration: Baking at 100-120℃ for 1-2 hours to remove moisture and restore the drying ability-this is routine maintenance; Cleaning: Only after verification of contamination. Must be paired with regeneration to restore usability. Special Note: Blue silica gel with cobalt chloride is poisonous. Use gloves when cleaning and keep out of reach of children.
