Food Heating Solutions Mica Heating Plate Mica Heater Application

Mica heaters are becoming increasingly important in the food service industry. Many hotels and restaurants need to heat and maintain pre-cooked or prepared food. Common methods include steam tables, steam cabinets, and steamer baskets, all of which involve heating or maintaining food. However, these steam systems also face numerous challenges and challenges. These include the need for continuous hot water heating, which leads to high operating costs; safety hazards for employees, who could be injured by the hot water and steam when changing food plates; the need for constant water additions, which increases labor costs to replace evaporated water; and the need for automatic water filling and draining, which incurs additional plumbing and installation costs. Furthermore, steam systems require extensive cleaning at the end of the day, and scale buildup from constant heating is difficult to remove.

Water Alternatives: New Solutions
To address these issues, food service operators have begun searching for alternatives to steam systems that don't rely on water. Following feedback from food equipment manufacturers, a heating solutions provider has developed a heater assembly for heating food equipment using mica heating plates. This assembly reduces:

1) energy consumption

2) installation costs

3) safety risks associated with handling hot water

The customer wanted to address these issues while maintaining food quality and safety.

Food Heating Solutions
The new solution for heating steam equipment is a mica heater assembly that meets all of the customer's requirements and offers additional benefits.

Cost Advantage: The heater assembly has minimal cost advantages and utilizes better heater technology.

Ease of Installation: The installation of the heater assembly is simplified and of higher quality.

Improved Reliability: The mica heater assembly offers increased reliability and service life.

Control: The design responds quickly to control adjustments.

Uniformity: The heater assembly provides more consistent and uniform heating within the heating well assembly.

Ease of Service: The heater assembly design allows for easy replacement of the heater in the event of a burnout, which was not possible with previous designs.

The right design makes all the difference.
Using their mica heating technology, they achieved uniform heat and eliminated the need for water. The challenge was to heat the pan evenly through convection, using air rather than steam. Heat needed to be evenly distributed to avoid hot and cold spots. The key was designing an efficient and uniform heat transfer mechanism from the heater to the food tray.

A thermal study was performed to simulate heat transfer. This enabled a precise heater design to meet the application's requirements. Using their proprietary mica material system, they developed a mica-based heater to replace the traditional tubular heaters used in most steam tables.

The newly developed mica heater was installed and tested in a redesigned food well. Numerous internal product tests were conducted to investigate key system performance indicators, such as power consumption, energy consumption, temperature uniformity, and reliability.

Food Well Mica Heater Application Results
Using mica heater components, they were able to replace water and achieve an effective food well heating solution, keeping food at the desired fresh and safe temperature. By eliminating water, energy consumption was reduced by nearly 50%, and the space required under the well was halved. Eliminating the need for piping associated with traditional steam meters, proven mica heating technology ensures long-term reliability in this versatile food well heating solution, reducing costs and increasing operational flexibility.

Furthermore, the heater assembly is designed to simplify field service, resulting in lower service costs and less downtime. Mica heating sheets, proven for food well applications, provide a long-term, high-performance, and cost-effective heating solution.
