How to connect the wires on the thermocouple

1. Thermocouples
A thermocouple is an instrument component used to measure temperature, composed of two different metals. It utilizes the principle of thermoelectric effect, which generates electromotive force when there is a temperature difference between the contact points of two different metals. Due to the complexity of the working principle and manufacturing process of thermocouples, it is necessary to select appropriate thermocouple models for different working conditions, strictly follow standard operations, and correctly connect them to ensure measurement.
2. Wiring method
The wiring method of the wires on the thermocouple is crucial, determining the accuracy and stability of temperature measurement. Generally speaking, thermocouples have two wires of different colors, one of which is a thermoelectric potential wire and the other is a cold junction wire. Correctly connecting these two wires is key to ensuring accurate temperature measurement by thermocouples.
Parallel connection method: Connect the thermoelectric potential line and the cold junction line to the positive and negative poles of the measuring circuit respectively. This wiring method is suitable for long-distance transmission and high current measurement, but attention should be paid to the temperature resistance of cable insulation in high-temperature environments.
Series connection method: Connect the thermoelectric potential line and the cold junction line in series to form a closed circuit. This wiring method is suitable for short distance transmission and low current measurement, and can reduce temperature gradient errors.
Regardless of the wiring method used, it is important to note that there should be no short circuit or reverse connection between the thermoelectric potential line and the cold junction line, as this may result in measurement errors. In addition, attention should be paid to protecting the outer insulation of the thermocouple and avoiding contact with other metal objects.
Correct wiring is the key to ensuring accurate temperature measurement of thermocouples. According to specific measurement requirements, choose parallel wiring method or series wiring method, and pay attention to following the correct wiring sequence and method. When using thermocouples, attention should also be paid to protecting their insulation layer and avoiding contact with other metal objects to ensure measurement and stability.
