How to Determine if Color-Changing Silica Gel Has Completely Cooled

warm to the touch, uniform in colour, and with no temperature differential between the interior and exterior of the container. This guarantees that it is at ambient temperature and eliminates the absorption of additional moisture.

1. Touch Test (Most Straightforward)

Procedure: Gently touch the outside wall of the container with the silica gel especially bottom and sides.

Judging Criteria:

Totally Cool: The container is not warm to the touch. It's room temperature.

Not fully cooled: You can still feel some warmth, especially in winter or in air-conditioned areas.

Seal at room temperature to prevent moisture.

2. Colour Stability Observation

Operation Way: Put into the oven with the power off or static environment to see if the silicone colour is uniform.

Evaluation Criteria:

Complete Cooling: The colour is constant at a deep blue (blue silicone) or orange (orange silicone), no localised reddish tint or darkening.

Incomplete cure: Applying the seal too soon may result in heat and moisture pick-up and some surface discolouration (pinking, for example).

Do not open and check repeatedly throughout the cooling process, else the temperature fluctuation would damage the judgement.

3. Environment and time frame

Terms & Conditions

Recommended Cooling Period

Explanation:

Small quantity of silica gel (<100g)

about 30 minutes

Quickly disperses heat, can decrease the length of summer

Silica gel (large amount >500g)

More than 60 minutes

More heat build up, takes more time

Employing a glass/ceramic tray

Extends by 10-15 minutes

Material is good for heat retention, slow heat dissipation

Natural cooling in the oven

Best way

Uses leftover heat for gradual cooling , avoids condensation

4. Final Confirmation Before Sealing

Open packaging test: Slightly open the sealed package and place near the cooled silica gel to check if fog appears;

Judging Criteria:

No fog → Cooled down fully, can be sealed;

Foggy → Residual heat, needs more cooling.

It should be quickly sealed and kept once it is totally cool, to keep it from taking in moisture from the air.
