How to Determine if PTFE Insulated Conductors are Suitable for Hot Runner Systems

Based on our previous discussion of the distributed capacitance of hot runner conductors, selection of low-dielectric insulation materials and PTFE as the insulation layer of hot runner conductors, the following key dimensions can be used to evaluate if PTFE insulated conductors are suitable for hot runner systems:

Temperature Resistance Check: The long-term temperature resistance of the conductor should be ≥260℃, which completely meets the normal operating temperature of the hot runner system of 200~250℃. This protects the insulation layer from deteriorating and failing at high temperatures and avoids anomalous increases in the distributed capacitance.

Dielectric Parameter Verification: Ensure that the dielectric constant of the insulation layer is stable in the low range of 2.0~2.2. This makes it possible to effectively reduce the parasitic distributed capacitance between the conductor and the metal shell, so as to diminish the low-pass filtering effect and avoid the temperature control signal lag.

Verification of Compatibility of Operating Conditions: The mechanical strength of the conductor insulation layer is sufficient and the wear resistance and bending resistance are adequate for complex wiring situations in the hot runner system. The dielectric constant does not change much in a long time at high temperature.

Compliance Verification: The product has industrial-grade high temperature resistance certification, no toxic substance leaching, and meets the reliability criteria for long-term continuous operation in injection molding workshops.

The PTFE leads passing the aforesaid verifications are entirely compatible with hot runner systems, avoiding malfunctions such as overshoot of temperature control and thermal shock cracking due to lead problems.
