How to Determine the Purity of PTFE Conductors

As discussed before about the PTFE conductor selection, temperature resistance evaluation, and compatibility verification in hot running situations, the following procedures can be used to test the purity of PTFE conductors:

Visual and tactile inspection: Pure PTFE insulation is semi-transparent and matte with a smooth texture and no visible elasticity. Inferior or adulterated quality items are usually very transparent, more flexible and elastic like rubber.

High Temperature Burning Test: Light a tiny sample with an open flame and burn briefly. PTFE in its pure form will not burn aggressively, the flame will be pale blue and self-extinguish when removed from the flame source, with practically no unpleasant black smoke detectable.

Density and Weighing Verification Virgin PTFE density is in the range of 2.1~2.2 g/cm³. The density of fake products with various fillers will differ dramatically from this range, which can be determined immediately by weighing.

Temperature resistance confirmation: Samples were cooked in 260℃ oven for 24 hours . No obvious deformation or melting was seen on pure PTFE, and its insulating properties changed little. Adulterated items, however, quickly softened and cracked.

These technologies can properly determine the pure PTFE material and remove the poor wires from early aging and failure in hot running circumstances.
