How to identify thermocouples as S-type

1. The basic principle of thermocouples
A thermocouple is a device for measuring temperature, which uses the voltage difference generated by the thermoelectric effect of two different metal wires to determine the temperature. When there is a temperature difference between the connecting ends of two wires, the thermoelectric potential difference generated by the metal will also change, and the temperature can be determined by measuring this change.
2. Classification of thermocouples
Thermocouples can be classified into various types based on their materials and structures, among which S-type thermocouples are widely used. The S-type thermocouple consists of a platinum rhodium alloy wire (positive electrode) and a nickel chromium aluminum alloy wire (negative electrode). Its characteristics are good stability, strong oxidation resistance, and suitable for high temperature environments.
3. Method for identifying thermocouples as S-type
To identify whether a thermocouple is S-type, the following methods can be used:
Firstly, observe the appearance of the thermocouple. The platinum rhodium alloy wires of S-type thermocouples generally appear platinum or gold, while the color of nickel chromium aluminum alloy wires is relatively dark, appearing dark gray.
Secondly, you can check the identification on the thermocouple. S-type thermocouples are usually labeled with the word "S" or related words such as "S-type" on the product.
Afterwards, identification can be achieved by measuring the voltage signal of the thermocouple. The voltage signal of S-type thermocouples has a linear relationship with temperature, and there is usually a standard voltage temperature correspondence table for reference.
4. Precautions
When using thermocouples for temperature measurement, the following points should be noted:
Ensure that the joint of the thermocouple is firmly connected to avoid measurement errors caused by poor or loose contact.
When selecting thermocouples, it is important to choose the appropriate model and material based on the specific measurement environment and requirements.
When using thermocouples in high-temperature environments, attention should be paid to protective measures to avoid potential safety hazards.
The above is the method and related precautions for identifying whether a thermocouple is S-type.
