How to test the corrosion resistance of Teflon coating?

There are several main methods for testing the corrosion resistance of Teflon coatings:
Neutral salt spray test
Test principle: Simulate the marine climate environment, and expose the Teflon coating sample to the salt spray environment by continuously spraying a solution containing a certain concentration of sodium chloride in the salt spray test chamber, accelerate the aging process of the coating in the corrosive environment, and thus evaluate its corrosion resistance.
Test steps: Place the sample coated with Teflon coating in the salt spray test chamber, usually using a 5% mass concentration of sodium chloride solution, and continuously spray at a temperature of about 35°C. Depending on different product requirements and standards, the test time can range from a few hours to thousands of hours. After the test, take out the sample, rinse it with clean water, and then observe the corrosion of the coating surface, such as rust, blistering, peeling, discoloration, etc., and rate it according to relevant standards.
Chemical immersion test
Test principle: Soak the Teflon coating sample in a specific chemical solution to simulate the chemical corrosive medium that the coating may be exposed to in actual use, and evaluate its chemical corrosion resistance by observing the changes in the coating in the solution.
Test steps: According to the chemical substances that the coating may be exposed to, select the corresponding immersion solution, such as acid, alkali, salt and other solutions. Immerse the sample completely in the solution and conduct the test under certain temperature and time conditions. For example, for acid resistance test, the sample can be immersed in a sulfuric acid solution of a certain concentration; for alkali resistance test, sodium hydroxide solution can be used. During the test, it is necessary to regularly observe the changes in the coating, such as whether there is dissolution, expansion, discoloration, shedding, etc., and record the time when obvious changes occur to judge the corrosion resistance of the coating.
Wet heat test
Test principle: By creating a high temperature and high humidity environment, accelerate the chemical reaction of Teflon coating with moisture, oxygen and other substances, and simulate the use of the coating in a humid environment to evaluate its corrosion resistance.
Test steps: Place the sample in a wet heat test chamber, generally set the temperature to 40-60℃, the relative humidity to 90%-95%, and determine the test time according to the product's use environment and requirements, usually ranging from a few days to a few weeks. After the test, check whether there is corrosion, mildew, blistering and other phenomena on the surface of the coating to evaluate the wet heat corrosion resistance of the coating.
In addition, there are other detection methods, such as electrochemical testing, which evaluates the corrosion resistance of the coating by measuring the electrochemical parameters of the coating in the electrolyte solution, such as polarization curves, impedance spectra, etc. This method can provide more detailed information on corrosion mechanism and kinetics, but requires professional equipment and technicians to operate.
