Is there a rapid method for testing the purity of magnesium oxide
Leave a message
Although there isn't a quick way to replace expert testing, appearance, density, and X-rays can be used for a quick preliminary screening. A third-party CNAS-certified organization's chemical analysis is required for an accurate evaluation of magnesium oxide purity. The following techniques are limited to rapidly spotting glaring anomalies on-site.
1. Quick Appearance Inspection (First Assessment in 30 Seconds)
Acceptable Features: The powder has no gray-black or yellowish-brown particles and is white, fine, and lump-free;
Abnormal Signs: Fe2O3, CaO, or moisture absorption may be indicated by dark colour, lumps, or deliquescence;
Procedure Suggestion: Apply a small layer to a white porcelain plate, then look at it in a bright light.
Additional testing is still necessary if trace contaminants (such Cl⁻ and SO₄²⁻) cannot be found.
2. The portable density metre test, which takes two minutes to complete
2.8–3.2 g/cm³ is the acceptable range;
Abnormalities: excessive porosity brought on by moisture absorption, excessive impurities, or coarse particles can all contribute to low density;
The suggested equipment is a density metre and Hall effect flowmeter that can be used on-site.
can serve as an indirect indicator of raw material homogeneity, but it cannot take the place of chemical analysis.
3. Five minutes each piece for portable X-ray flaw detector screening
Important Inspection Points: Whether the filled tube has voids, off-center cores, or uneven density;
Resolution Requirement: ≥5μm, sufficient to detect structural flaws at the micron level;
Benefits: Non-destructive and appropriate for thorough reworkpiece inspection.
suggested for quick screening to increase productivity on the manufacturing site.
