Is there a way to restore the performance of color-changing silica gel?

The method for restoring the performance of color-changing silica gel depends on the cause of its failure. If the discolouration is caused by moisture absorption, it can be restored by heat regeneration. If the performance degradation is caused by contamination or ageing, only mild contamination can be attempted by cleaning and regeneration, while severe contamination or ageing cannot be restored.

1. Regular Regeneration after Moisture Absorption (Most Common Case) Suitable for normal moisture absorption and colour change (blue → pink, orange → green) without contamination or structural damage:

How does it work?

Spread the silica gel evenly in a container that is heat resistant;

Place in oven 100-120℃ and bake for 1-2 hours;

Switch off the power and leave it to cool in the oven for 30–60 minutes;

Seal and store in within 5 minutes to prevent further moisture absorption.

Judgement criteria: The colour is returned to deep blue or bright orange, and the particles are dry and loose.

2. Restoration of Lightly polluted Surfaces: Suitable for surfaces polluted with dust, trace oil, etc.:

(1) Water Rinse + High Temperature Dry Wash with running water to remove filth, Drain, then bake as above, Suitable for family kitchens and light pollution in the air.

(2) Alcohol wipe (emergency) Wipe the area gently with a cotton swab soaked in 75% medicinal alcohol; After air drying, high temperature drying is still needed to guarantee dehydration.

Cleaning cannot remove impurities that deeply enter into micropores . The silica gel containing cobalt chloride is poisonous . So gloves should be worn when operating . 3. Incurable Failures (Needs Replacement)
