Precautions for Electroplating and Coloring of Electric Heating Tube Plastic

Plastic electroplating is currently a major trend, and many products use plastic as a substitute, greatly reducing costs. At the same time, with the improvement of plastic product performance, plastic is also becoming more and more widely used, such as automotive parts, decorative products, and so on. So what precautions must be taken when coloring plastic electroplating? The editor will tell you:

(1) The clamping must be secure. The fixture should be made of hard aluminum material with good elasticity, and sufficient cross-sectional area should be considered to facilitate secure clamping.

(2) The non clamping parts of the fixture should be insulated. Insulation can reduce energy and resource consumption during anodizing and electrolytic coloring processes, and maximize the loading capacity of the working tank.

Due to the poor conductivity of titanium materials, it is recommended not to use titanium fixtures in this process.

(3) Reasonably select polar materials. The opposite pole of plastic electroplating is mainly made of sulfuric acid resistant stainless steel. In order to facilitate uniform distribution of current during electrolytic coloring, it is better to use a fence or mesh anode, and its total surface area should not be less than the total area of electrolytic coloring and fixtures.

To improve the stability of plastic electroplating solution and reduce the oxidation rate of tin, a small amount of tin strip can also be hung on the opposite electrode.

(4) Electrolytic coloring parts should ensure sufficient thickness of the anodic oxide film. The thickness of the anodic oxide film on electrolytic dark colored parts shall not be less than l0 μ m. Electrolytic light colored parts, with an anodic oxide film thickness of not less than 8pm.

(5) The process should be closely connected. After the workpiece is anodized with sulfuric acid, electrolytic coloring should be carried out immediately. If the workload is large and waiting is needed, it can be temporarily soaked in clean water, but the storage time should not be too long. During this process, it is necessary to prevent the misalignment between the fixture and the workpiece from causing electrolytic coloring to be unable to proceed.

(6) When electroplating plastic, the voltage should be gradually increased. After the workpiece enters the electrolytic coloring tank, gently shake it in the tank liquid for a few times, and within the next 1 minute, slowly increase the voltage to the rated value. Following this operation is beneficial for obtaining a uniform and consistent quality of the coloring film.
