Research and Application of Electroplating Semi Solid Metal Forming Technology for Electric Heating Tubes

In the 1970s, Professor Flemings and others from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the United States developed a new metal forming method called semi solid processing technology. In a paper by Flemings, it was reported that strong stirring during solidification of metal materials can break the dendritic network structure formed by metal solidification to form a near spherical structure, and obtain a solid-liquid (solid component is generally 50%) mixed slurry with a certain granular solid component evenly suspended in the liquid metal mother liquid. At this time, semi-solid metal has excellent rheology and thixotropy. Therefore, it is easy to achieve forming using conventional processing techniques such as die casting, extrusion, die forging, etc. The method of processing and forming metal slurry that is neither liquid nor completely solid is called the semi solid forming technology of metals. It can be seen that semi-solid processing is a method of forming metals by utilizing the characteristics of the process of metal transition from liquid to solid or from solid to liquid (i.e., liquid-solid coexistence). This new forming method combines the advantages of solidification processing and plastic processing, that is, lower processing temperature compared to liquid, lower deformation resistance compared to solid, and can process parts with complex shapes and high requirements for accuracy and performance quality in one large deformation. Therefore, semi-solid processing technology is known as the most promising material forming and processing method in the 21st century.

In nickel plating solution containing nickel chloride, nickel chloride not only serves as the main salt and conductive salt, but also acts as an anode activator. In electroplating nickel solutions that do not contain nickel chloride or have a lower content, a certain amount of sodium chloride needs to be added according to the actual situation. Nickel bromide or nickel chloride is also commonly used as a stress relieving agent to maintain the internal stress of the coating and give the coating a semi bright appearance.
