The biggest difference between roller plating and small parts hanging plating is that it uses a drum, which is a material holding device that carries the plating of small parts during the continuous rolling process. A typical drum is in the shape of a hexagonal prism and placed horizontally. One side of the drum wall panel has an opening. During electroplating, a certain number of small parts are installed into the drum from the opening, and then the drum door is closed to close the opening. The drum wall panel is covered with many small holes, which are necessary for conducting current between the parts and the anode, updating the solution inside and outside the cylinder, and discharging waste gas during electroplating. The cathode conductive device inside the drum passes through the central shaft holes on both sides of the drum through copper wires or rods, and is then fixed on the conductive feet of the left and right wall panels of the drum. The parts are naturally connected to the cathode conductive device within the drum by their own gravity. The rolling plating of small parts is carried out in such a device. The structure, size, size, rotational speed, conductivity, and porosity of the drum are all related to the production efficiency and coating quality of the barrel plating. Therefore, the drum is one of the key points of the entire barrel plating technology research.

During barrel plating, small parts are not stationary within the drum, but must constantly roll as the drum rotates. This type of rolling is specific to a specific part, which is either buried inside the entire stacked part or flipped over to the outer surface. This cycle repeats until the entire barrel plating process is completed.
