The importance of insulation layer and waterproof layer of electric heating cable

Electric heating cables are designed to prevent condensation in various process pipelines and containers within production facilities and on-platform living quarters. Electric heating systems are sometimes installed outdoors in land-based environments, where rainwater is a crucial consideration for system protection.

Rainwater seeping into the inner layer of an outdoor electric heating system significantly reduces its insulation capacity. Damage to the sheathing can cause electrical breakdown and sparks. Therefore, to prevent inadvertent damage to the heating cables during construction, insulation and waterproofing must be installed as soon as possible after passing the insulation test.

Insulation and waterproofing are crucial components of an electric heating system and must be installed strictly in accordance with design specifications. Installing insulation on the surface of the heating cables reduces heat loss and provides a more centralized heating system. Much like wearing a padded jacket, it conserves heat for future use. Furthermore, external insulation protects the heating cables, providing insulation and protection for the system. This reduces electricity costs and extends the service life of the heating cables. When installing the insulation layer, the insulation material must be dry. Wet insulation can compromise insulation effectiveness and corrode the heating product, shortening the lifespan of the entire heating insulation system.

After installing the insulation material, a waterproof layer must be applied immediately. Failure to do so will reduce insulation performance and affect the proper operation of the heating system. When installing the waterproof layer, be careful to prevent the metal sheet from scratching the heating cable sheath. The screws securing the waterproof sheet should be short, as they may puncture the sheath. After installing the insulation and waterproof layers, remeasure the insulation resistance and keep records to ensure proper operation of the heating system. After the heating system is installed, a warning label indicating "Heat Cable Inside" and clearly marked the location of all accessories should be affixed to the insulation layer for easy repair and maintenance.
