Substrate treatment
Surface cleaning: Before spraying Teflon coating, impurities such as oil, dust, rust, etc. on the surface of the substrate must be thoroughly removed. Organic solvent cleaning, sandblasting or chemical degreasing can be used to ensure that the surface of the substrate is clean and free of pollutants to ensure good adhesion between the coating and the substrate and avoid uneven coating thickness due to surface impurities.
Surface flatness treatment: The flatness of the substrate surface has an important influence on the uniformity of coating thickness. For uneven substrates, grinding, polishing or machining are required to make the surface roughness reach a suitable range. Generally speaking, the surface roughness Ra is more suitable between 0.8 - 1.6μm. This allows the coating to adhere evenly to the surface of the substrate during the spraying process, reducing the variation in coating thickness caused by uneven surface.
Paint preparation
Full stirring and filtering: Before use, Teflon coatings need to be fully stirred to evenly disperse the pigments, fillers and other components in them to avoid precipitation or agglomeration. At the same time, use a filter to filter the paint to remove possible impurities or lumps, ensure the fluidity and uniformity of the paint, and prevent uneven coating thickness due to the unevenness of the paint itself.
Control the viscosity of the paint: The viscosity of the paint has a direct impact on the uniformity of the coating thickness. If the viscosity is too high, the paint is difficult to spray evenly, and thick edges or sagging are likely to occur; if the viscosity is too low, the paint has poor adhesion to the surface of the substrate and is easy to lose, resulting in thinning of the coating. Therefore, it is necessary to adjust the viscosity of the paint to a suitable range by adding diluents or thickeners according to the requirements of the spraying process and equipment. Generally, the viscosity of Teflon paint is more suitable in 20-50s (coating-4 cup viscometer, 25℃).
Spraying equipment maintenance
Regularly check the spray gun: The spray gun is one of the key equipment that affects the uniformity of the coating thickness. Regularly check the nozzle, needle valve and other parts of the spray gun to ensure that they are not worn, blocked or damaged. If the nozzle is found to be worn, it will cause uneven spraying of the paint, and the nozzle should be replaced in time; if the needle valve is not sealed tightly, it will affect the flow control of the paint, and it also needs to be repaired or replaced to ensure that the spray gun can work normally and spray a uniform paint mist flow.
Keep the equipment clean: The cleanliness of the spray equipment is crucial to the quality of the coating. After each use, the spray gun, feeding system, spray chamber and other equipment should be cleaned in time to prevent the paint residue from drying and blocking the pipeline or affecting the normal transportation and spraying of the paint. Regularly clean and maintain the equipment in a comprehensive manner to remove dust, oil and paint deposits on the surface of the equipment to ensure that the equipment is in good working condition, which will help improve the uniformity of the coating thickness.
Environmental control
Temperature and humidity control: The temperature and humidity of the spraying environment have a significant effect on the thickness uniformity of the Teflon coating. If the temperature is too high, the paint dries too fast, which is prone to orange peel phenomenon or uneven coating thickness; if the temperature is too low, the paint dries slowly, which may cause sagging. Too much humidity will hinder the evaporation of the solvent in the paint, affect the drying and curing of the coating, and may also cause defects such as whitening and bubbling on the coating surface. Generally speaking, the temperature of the spraying environment should be controlled at 20-30℃, and the relative humidity should be controlled at 40%-60%.
Optimize ventilation conditions: Good ventilation conditions help the volatilization of solvents in the paint and the discharge of waste gas, so that the coating can be evenly dried and cured. At the same time, the ventilation speed should be moderate. Too strong ventilation will cause the paint mist to blow away, resulting in uneven coating thickness; if the ventilation is too weak, the waste gas and moisture cannot be discharged in time, affecting the quality of the coating. By adjusting the wind speed and wind direction of the ventilation equipment, a stable and uniform airflow field can be formed in the spraying room, providing a good environment for the formation and drying of the coating.
