What are the main uses of PVC plastic?

1. PVC Profiles

Profiles and profiles are a major consumer of PVC in my country, accounting for approximately 25% of total PVC consumption. They are primarily used in the manufacture of doors, windows, and energy-saving materials, and their application continues to grow significantly nationwide. In developed countries, plastic doors and windows also hold the largest market share, such as 50% in Germany, 56% in France, and 45% in the United States.

2. PVC Pipes

Among the many PVC products, PVC pipes are the second largest consumer sector, accounting for approximately 20% of total consumption. In my country, PVC pipes were developed earlier than PE and PP pipes, offering a wider variety of types, superior performance, and broader applications, thus holding an important position in the market.

3. PVC Films

PVC film is the third largest consumer of PVC, accounting for approximately 10%. After PVC is mixed with additives and plasticized, it is processed into transparent or colored films of specified thickness using a three-roll or four-roll calender. Films processed in this way are called calendered films. PVC can also be cut and heat-sealed to make packaging bags, raincoats, tablecloths, curtains, inflatable toys, etc. Wide, transparent films can be used for greenhouses, plastic sheds, and mulch films. Biaxially oriented films, due to their heat-shrink properties, can be used for shrink packaging.

4. Rigid PVC Materials and Sheets

PVC, with the addition of stabilizers, lubricants, and fillers, can be extruded into rigid pipes, shaped pipes, and corrugated pipes of various diameters for use as drainage pipes, drinking water pipes, electrical conduits, or stair railings. Overlapping and hot-pressing calendered sheets can produce rigid sheets of various thicknesses. Sheets can be cut into desired shapes and then welded with hot air using PVC welding rods to create various chemically resistant storage tanks, ventilation ducts, and containers.

5. Soft PVC Products

PVC can be extruded into hoses, cables, and wires; injection molding machines, combined with various molds, can be used to make plastic sandals, shoe soles, slippers, toys, and automotive parts.

6. Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) Packaging Materials

PVC products are mainly used for packaging, including various containers, films, and rigid sheets. PVC containers are primarily used for mineral water, beverage, and cosmetic bottles, as well as PTP packaging for pharmaceuticals, and are also used for refined oil packaging. PVC films can be co-extruded with other polymers to produce low-cost laminated products, and transparent products with good barrier properties. PVC films can also be used for stretch or heat-shrink packaging of mattresses, fabrics, toys, and industrial goods.

7. Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) Wall Panels and Flooring

PVC wall panels are mainly used to replace aluminum wall panels. PVC floor tiles, besides a portion of PVC resin, consist of recycled materials, adhesives, fillers, and other components, and are mainly used for airport terminal floors and other hard surfaces.

8. Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) Consumer Goods

Luggage bags are a traditional product made from PVC. PVC is used to make various imitation leather products for luggage bags, sporting goods such as basketballs, footballs, and rugby balls, and belts for uniforms and specialized protective equipment. PVC fabrics for clothing are generally absorbent (no coating required), such as raincoats, baby pants, imitation leather jackets, and various rain boots. PVC is used in many sports and entertainment products, such as toys, records, and sporting goods. Currently, PVC toys are experiencing significant growth due to their low production costs and ease of molding, giving them a competitive advantage.
