What are the performance characteristics of H13 material with a hardness of 48-52 HRC?
Leave a message
In order to achieve a balance between high strength, outstanding toughness, and exceptional wear resistance, H13 material performs best overall when its hardness is between 48 and 52 HRC. It works well with molds that are subjected to high temperatures and pressures.
1. Important Performance Measures
Indicators of Performance
Performance
An explanation
Hardness
48–52 HRC
If it is too high, it becomes brittle; if it is too low, it is more likely to collapse. The ideal equilibrium is found in this range.
Toughness of Impact
15–20 J/cm²
Fracture resistance has been much enhanced; >18 J/cm² is excellent.
Resistance to Abrasion
greatly improved.
The matrix is supported by fine, scattered carbides, which slow down the rate of wear.
Life of Thermal Fatigue
more than 30% longer.
delayed cracking, uniform microstructure, and steady expansion during thermal cycling.
Remaining Stress
≤100 MPa
Low stress greatly lowers the chance of cracking while being processed and serviced.
Practical Use: H13 hot runner nozzles that have been tempered twice at 580°C have a lifespan of more than 500,000 cycles, a consistent hardness of 49.8 HRC, and an impact toughness of 17.3 J/cm².
2. Features of Metallography
Matrix Structure: Fine carbides dispersed widely and uniform tempered martensite;
No Abnormal Structure: No network carbides, untempered martensite, or oxidation at the grain boundary;
Structure Uniformity: A "hard surface, soft interior" impression is avoided by having no appreciable structural variances between thick and thin sections.
To guaranty a clean and consistent microstructure, it is advised to sample at least 5% of each batch and examine it under a 400× microscope.
3. Assurance of Process and Quality
Conduct two rounds of tempering: In order to fully relieve stress, the sample must air cool to room temperature following the first tempering;
For accurate temperature control, use a PID temperature control furnace with a furnace temperature differential of ≤±5°C and a setting of 580°C±5°C;
Adequate Holding Time: ≥2 hours every time, plus 30 minutes for each 25 mm of thickness in the case of thicker parts;
Data archiving: For traceability, save test results and furnace temperature curves.
"Data archiving, organizational trustworthiness, and performance compliance" are the three most dependable security principles.
