What are the steps for PID self-tuning in a hot runner temperature monitoring system?

Based on the prior emphasis on the calibration of hot runner temperature monitoring systems and the necessity of re-tuning after full-point calibration, the standard operational steps of PID self-tuning are:

Preparation: Set all heating zones in the hot runner to normal production temperature. Ensure that the mold cooling water is off to bring the hot runner to a steady state without external influence.

To begin self-tuning, press the control panel's "AT" self-tuning button on the temperature controller. Press and hold for 3 to 5 seconds to activate start. The panel will show a self-tuning running indicator.

Wait for Automatic Operation The system will go through 2-3 complete heating-overshoot-cooling cycles, automatically matching the heating inertia characteristics of the hot runner. It takes about 15-30 minutes for the whole process. During this time, do not unplug the power or halt the operation.

Verify and Finish: The newly obtained PID parameters are automatically stored in the system at the end of the auto-tuning. Monitor for 30 minutes to ensure that there is no major temperature overshoot and that steady state fluctuations are controlled within ±1℃. That completes the whole operation. The operating threshold for this series of steps is low, and it may be readily performed by beginners. Most industrial hot runner temperature control systems are compatible with this procedure.
