What is the lifespan of a metal bevel self-tightening hard seal

A metal bevel self-tightening hard seal typically lasts 12 to 24 months under the right hot runner requirements. Operating pressure and maintenance conditions have an impact on the longevity.

Lifespan Variations in Various Operating Situations:

200–250 MPa operating pressure, routine maintenance, and an average lifespan of 18–24 months, with the majority exceeding two years;

Frequent start-stop shocks and operating pressure of 250–300 MPa; average lifespan of 12–18 months, still more than 50% longer than standard double-seal combinations;

Extremely high pressure continuous production above 300 MPa: Lifespan of around 8 to 12 months; regular replacement must be scheduled in advance.

Important Lifespan Factors:

Material Influence: Compared to regular 304 stainless steel, seals constructed of 316 stainless steel/Hastelloy alloy provide superior corrosion and fatigue resistance, extending lifespan by about 30%.

Maintenance Influence: Retightening once a year and disassembling and cleaning leftover crystals every six months enhance service life by 20% to 40% by preventing impurity damage to the sealing surface.

effect Influence: Stepped pressure increases prevent fatigue damage to the sealing surface and postpone aging by preventing an immediate overpressure effect during starting.

Under normal conditions, the lifespan is much greater than the 6–12 months of typical flat gasket seals, and premature replacement is not necessary as long as there is no melt leakage or anomalous signal.
