What Standard Storage Specifications Apply to Unused Hot Runner Thermocouple Spares

Improper storage of spare thermocouple inventory will cause premature aging, rust of terminals, oxidation of sheath, and damp failure of insulation before installation, leading to a high defect rate after placed into production. Standardized warehouse storage specifications for environmental control, classified packaging, placement rules and regular inventory inspection will help to maintain the original precision and service life of spare thermocouples, so as to avoid the loss of procurement funds due to failure of stored sensors.

The basic requirement is the temperature and humidity regulation of the storage environment. The thermocouple replacement parts warehouse shall be maintained at a constant temperature of 18℃-28℃ and relative humidity of 40%-65%RH, equipped with dehumidifiers and ventilation fans to avoid moisture condensation on metal sheaths and plug pins. Spare thermocouples are strictly prohibited to be stored near mold cleaning chemical agents, oil storage areas and high-temperature mold preheating zones. Volatile corrosive gas and heat radiation will accelerate sheath oxidation and wire jacket embrittlement. In humid coastal areas, insert sealed desiccant bags in each storage carton to take up remaining moisture in the packaging space. In warehouse lighting do not irradiate with direct sunlight for a long time. Ultraviolet rays deteriorate the fiberglass and PTFE exterior protective sleeves, and render them brittle.

Sealed packaging classified to avoid cross contamination and oxidation. The new thermocouples shipped from suppliers shall be stored in the original moisture-proof anti-rust packaging. After sampling inspection, they shall be repackaged with independent anti-rust oil paper and sealed plastic bags and returned to inventory. Storage classification according to core parameters: Independent storage of K, J, N, E type thermocouples; Classification according to sheath diameter 0.8mm, 1.0mm, 1.5mm; Independent storage boxes for flat-head, probe, button and integrated valve gate types, each box marked with wire length, sheath material and applicable hot runner brand. In storage, separation of medical-grade and regular industrial thermocouples is needed to prevent cross-contamination of residual corrosive impurities on medical sensor sheaths. Do not stack thermocouples along with steel screws, metal cutting tools and sharp mold accessories which may scratch and damage the sheath during stacking.

The scientific positioning standards avoid mechanical distortion and wire breakage. All extra thermocouples are stored horizontally in plastic storage boxes with soft sponge lining at the bottom, without allowing any vertical insertion stacking that would squeeze the thin armored probes to bend and deform. Long wire thermocouples are not tightly coiled into small circles but wound into large-diameter loops with a radius of over 10cm to prevent irreversible stress damage to the internal alloy wires produced by severe bending. Do not stack heavy mold replacement parts and metal boxes on top of thermocouple storage cartons. Long-term compression will deform smooth armored tubes and shatter interior insulation powder. Ultra-thin 0.8mm micro probe thermocouples are placed in individual little separated sponge slots, to avoid mutual extrusion and bending of slender sensing heads.

Regular inventory inspection and pre-use re-inspection can eliminate concealed aging flaws. Every quarter, perform a comprehensive inventory examination of spare thermocouples, remove surface rust spots on plug pins with anti-rust cleaning cloth, replace failed desiccant bags in packaging boxes and reject items with split outer sleeves and discolored oxidized sheaths. The required pre-inspection procedures when removing thermocouples from stock for mold assembly include multimeter open/short circuit test and appearance recheck. For spare sensors stored for more than three months, add a quick temperature calibration test with a portable heat gun to ensure no drift deviation caused by long-term storage dampness. Thermocouples shall not be utilized directly on high-precision automobile molds and medical molds if stored for more than six months, and shall be calibrated by a formal dry block furnace prior to installation.

Disposal requirements for used thermocouples stored offline, disassembled for long-term If thermocouples are removed temporarily and the storage period is more than one month, the carbon deposits and oil stains on the surfaces of the sheath and sensing head should be cleaned thoroughly, a thin layer of anti-rust oil should be applied on the metal parts, and then they should be covered with oil paper and sealed separately in moisture-proof boxes, instead of being stored attached to mold plates. The box marking with the disassembly date and original mold information can distinguish new spare sensors from recycled dismantled sensors and avoid their improper usage on high-standard production lines.

Standardized storage criteria may assure the original functioning of the hot runner thermocouple spare parts, reduce the scrap rate of inventory sensors, and ensure the stable supply of qualified matching sensors throughout mold maintenance and trial production.
