In August 2012, Russia officially became the 156th member of the WTO. After entering the WTO, Russia will usher in a new starting point for its own economic development and foreign economic and trade cooperation, which will have a profound impact on the regional and even the entire world economy. Previously, Russia has been worried about its accession to the WTO, and worried that open policies such as lowering import tariffs would have an impact on its domestic industry. Anatoly Topilin, an expert of the Russian Institute of Macroeconomics, believes that with the opening of the market, the entry of foreign goods will bring fierce competition to Russia's light industry and high-tech industry, which will trigger changes in Russia's employment structure.
The impact of China's accession to the WTO, as Boris Fuming, chairman of the Textile Industry and Light Industry Commerce Committee of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said, "There are two sides to a coin. Russia's accession to the WTO has both advantages and disadvantages, but in general, the advantages outweigh the disadvantages.". Boris Fuming takes the textile light industry as an example, which is one of the weakest industries in Russia. In the textile light industry market of 2 trillion to 3 trillion rubles, the market share of local products is only 20% to 25%, and the remaining market share depends on imports. Fuming believes that China's accession to the WTO will eliminate about 50% of the gray imports in the import share, and the Russian textile light industry market will become more standardized from then on, and local enterprises will gain growth opportunities instead. At the same time, trading partners are also willing to invest and cooperate in a more fair and legal Russian market.
