FAQ
How to judge the quality of thermocouples?
The basic principle of armored thermocouple temperature measurement is that two different components of conductors form a closed circuit. When there is a temperature gradient at both ends, the current will pass through the circuit. At this point, there is an electromotive force - thermoelectric force - between the two ends, which is known as the Seebeck effect. Two uniform conductors with different compositions are thermoelectric electrodes, with the high-temperature end being the working end and the low-temperature end being the free end, which is usually at a constant temperature.
Thermocouples will definitely wear and even be damaged after being used for a period of time. Generally speaking, the quality of a thermocouple is related to its internal thermocouple wires. However, how to determine the quality of even numbered lines requires a simple discussion of this issue.
Firstly, ensure that there are no issues with the appearance of the thermocouple wire, and the quality must be determined through inspection.
Place the thermocouple wire to be tested on a special ceramic sleeve for thermocouples, and place it together with the standard platinum rhodium thermocouple in a tubular electric furnace. Insert the hot end into a cylinder made of porous nickel metal and soak it in the tubular electric furnace. The cold ends of each compensation line are placed in containers maintained at zero degrees Celsius by a mixture of ice and water.
The tubular electric furnace is maintained at the maximum temperature allowed by the thermocouple and remains stable within this range. At this point, the thermoelectric potential difference generated by the standard thermocouple and the thermocouple to be tested is measured and recorded using a tested and qualified Weston potentiometer. Based on the recorded thermoelectric potential difference, identify each corresponding temperature in the rating table. If the measured thermocouple exceeds the tolerance range, it can be determined as unqualified.
