Common faults and solutions of rice cookers

Common faults of rice cookers
1. Heating plate: This is the main heating element of an electric rice cooker. This is an aluminum alloy disc with an embedded electric heating tube, and the inner pot is placed on top of it. You can see it by removing the inner pot.
2. Temperature limiter: also known as magnetic steel. It is equipped with a permanent magnetic ring and a spring inside, which can be pressed and located in the center of the heating plate. When cooking, when the cooking switch is pressed, the lever switch is driven by the suction of the magnetic steel to keep the power contact connected. When cooking rice, the temperature at the bottom of the pot continuously increases, and the suction of the permanent magnetic ring decreases with the increase of temperature. When the water in the inner pot is evaporated and the temperature at the bottom of the pot reaches 103 ± 2C, the suction of the magnetic ring is less than the elasticity of the spring on it, and the temperature limiter is pushed down by the spring to drive the lever switch and cut off the power.
3. Insulation switch: also known as a thermostat. It is composed of a spring plate, a pair of normally closed contacts, a pair of normally open contacts, and a bimetallic plate. When cooking, the temperature inside the pot rises, and due to the different thermal expansion rates of the two metal sheets that make up the bimetallic sheets, the bimetallic sheets bend upwards. When the temperature reaches above 80C, under the push of the upward bending bimetallic plate, the spring plate drives the normally open and normally closed contacts to switch, thereby cutting off the power supply of the heating tube and stopping heating. When the temperature inside the pot drops below 80C, the bimetallic sheet gradually cools down and recovers. The normally open and normally closed contacts switch again, and the heating tube power is connected for heating. Repeat this process to achieve insulation effect.
4. Lever switch: This switch is completely mechanical and has a normally open contact. When cooking, press this switch to connect the heating tube with power, and at the same time, power up the heating indicator light to turn it on. When the meal is ready, the temperature limiter pops down and drives the lever switch, causing the contacts to open. Afterwards, the heating tube is only controlled by the insulation switch.
Solutions for rice cookers
Fault 1: Plug in the power plug and the power fuse will immediately blow
1. Water or rice soup enters the power socket of the rice cooker, causing a short circuit. In this case, the socket can be blown dry and then reused;
2. The power socket or plug of the rice cooker has a short circuit due to its surface aging due to long-term use. In this case, the surface carbonization layer can be ground off with fine sandpaper and wiped clean with alcohol. You can continue to use it
Fault 2: Unable to keep warm after cooking the meal
This fault may be due to dirt or erosion on the surface of the normally closed contacts of the insulation switch, causing excessive contact resistance, causing the contacts to close and the circuit to be blocked, the heating tube not heating, and the rice cooker not being insulated. At this point, the contact surface can be cleaned with fine sandpaper and coated with a layer of tin. If the insulation is still not maintained, the insulation switch can be replaced.
Fault three: cooking burnt rice
This fault may be due to the sintering and sticking of the normally closed contacts of the insulation switch. Although the rice has been cooked and the temperature limiter has also tripped, the insulation switch continues to power the heating tube, causing the rice to burn. At this point, a small knife can be used to separate the contacts, and then the surface of the contacts can be cleaned with fine sandpaper.
Fault 4: Boiling uncooked rice
This fault is generally caused by the weakening of the permanent magnetic ring in the temperature limiter. At this point, the temperature limiter of the rice cooker can be disassembled to check whether the magnetic ring is broken and how the suction is. If the permanent magnetic ring is broken, a temperature limiter of the same model must be replaced; If the suction decreases, the temperature regulating screw on the temperature limiter can be adjusted by 1/4 turn at a time, adjusting once to try cooking.
