The drum shape of horizontal roller plating is "bamboo tube" or "column" shaped, and it is placed horizontally when used. The axial direction of the drum is horizontal, so horizontal roller plating is also called horizontal roller plating. The commonly used hexagonal rollers, chrome plated rollers, rod (or spoke) rollers, and needle rollers in production all belong to the category of horizontal roller plating. Among them, hexagonal rollers are the most widely used.

The cross-sectional shapes of horizontal drums include hexagonal, octagonal, and circular shapes. The use of hexagonal rollers results in a significant drop in the parts during flipping, and the mixing of the parts is more thorough, so the fluctuation of coating thickness is better than other shapes of rollers. This advantage is more pronounced when the loading capacity does not exceed half of the drum capacity. Moreover, the mutual polishing effect between hexagonal drum parts is strong, which is more conducive to improving the brightness of the coating.
2.2 Axial direction of drum
The axial direction of the horizontal drum is horizontal. So, when the horizontal drum drives the parts to roll, the running direction of the parts is perpendicular to the horizontal plane, which is conducive to sufficient mixing between the parts and improving the brightness of the coating. Moreover, the vertical operation of the parts also gains an advantage for the loading capacity of the horizontal drum.
For example, it is not uncommon for horizontal rollers to load around 150kg of parts in production, which is unimaginable for other roller plating methods. Especially in recent years, the length and diameter of horizontal drums have undergone significant development, and the size and weight of parts suitable for barrel plating have also increased. Many existing hanging plated parts can also be barrel plated. All of these demonstrate the superiority of high labor production efficiency in barrel plating.
