How to Choose a Suitable Third-Party Calibration Organization
Leave a message
A four-step screening procedure is used to choose a third-party organization that is appropriate for hot runner calibration: "Qualification Verification → Scenario Adaptation → Cost Verification." This will assist you in selecting a trustworthy and compliant company. The following are specific standards:
1. First Step: Verify Qualification Requirements; Directly Remove Unqualified Organizations
This is a fundamental criterion for both satisfying quality system audit standards and the legal validity of calibration results. The following have to be fulfilled at the same time:
must be CNAS accredited, and "Temperature Measurement/Thermocouple Calibration" must be explicitly included in the accreditation scope (you can ask the organization to send a CNAS certificate attachment to confirm the scope).
The organization must additionally have CMA accreditation if the client or auditing authority requires a CMA certification report.
Avoid: Your reports won't be accepted if you select companies who just have general instrument calibration certifications but don't cover temperature-related topics.
2. Step 2: Prioritize institutions with industry experience and screen for scenario suitability. Institutions with industrial experience are more trustworthy because hot runner calibration must be adjusted to the mold's on-site working conditions:
Give preference to organizations that have experience with injection molding and hot runner calibration. To prevent errors resulting from their ignorance of hot runner installation features, ask similar institutions for case studies.
To avoid the need for you to prepare extra equipment, require the institution to bring its own standard thermocouples with an accuracy of ≥0.1°C (K/J type is typically used for hot runners).
Verify service capabilities and steer clear of pitfalls in step three.
Verify support for on-site calibration without disassembling the machine: The sensors are calibrated immediately on the manufacturing mold. Results from on-site calibration are more accurate and in line with real operating conditions.
Verify that a formal calibration report with the CNAS mark is issued following calibration, fulfilling the standards of quality system audits like ISO9001 and IATF16949.
Verify the response time ahead of time: Steer clear of on-site visits that take more than six months following the reservation, as this will slow down the production process.
Step 4: Check Prices and Steer Clear of Hidden Fees
A fair price range for standard hot runner system on-site calibration:
Local On-site Service Fee: 300–500 RMB each service; Single Calibration Fee: 150–300 RMB per system for private institutions; 300–500 RMB per system for official Metrology Institutes. To find out if travel costs and report fees are included, ask about the total cost beforehand. Steer clear of businesses who impose outrageous hidden fees or estimate rates that are much below market value.
