How to Choose Hot Runner Thermocouple Lead Length

Internal mold wiring logic, signal transmission stability, and ease of on-site installation are all strongly impacted by the total lead length of hot runner thermocouples. Wiring stress, superfluous winding, and future replacement difficulties can be prevented by carefully choosing the lead length in accordance with the actual mold structure.

Verify the wire stroke inside the mold first. Determine the straight-line distance between the external junction box and the nozzle or manifold's temperature measuring hole, then allow 20 to 30 centimeters for a loose margin. In order to prevent wires from being pulled taut and breaking during mold operation, this reserved length can adjust to mold opening and closure displacement, thermal expansion position deviation, and subsequent disassembly space demand.

Second, differentiate installation locations such that lengths are consistently matched. Since the manifold middle position temperature measuring points are near the mold edge, short and medium leads can be chosen to minimize redundant wiring occupation space. Thermocouples installed on deep cavity long nozzles require longer leads to go around internal mold structures and finish external wiring.

Third, steer clear of very lengthy redundant leads. Overly lengthy wires inside the mold are vulnerable to high-temperature aging and friction damage, as well as being easily packed and dispersed and compressed by moving elements. In the meantime, too long signal lines will raise the likelihood of external electromagnetic interference, which could result in unreliable feedback and floating temperature readings.

Fourth, standardize the lead length requirements for the same group of molds. One hot runner system's thermocouples all use the same standard length, which makes it easy to store spare parts later on and replace them quickly. It also prevents wiring confusion caused by varying lengths during maintenance.

Instead of cutting and splicing completed items on-site, use bespoke fixed-length finished thermocouples in customized non-standard molds. The internal shielding structure and positive-negative polarity balance will be destroyed by random cutting and joint processing, which will lower measurement accuracy and shorten service life. The service life of temperature measurement sensors and signal lines may be successfully extended by scientific lead length matching, which also makes mold wiring clean and consistent.
