How to connect a 220V electric heating tube to a 380V voltage?

With the increasing popularity of electric heaters, many people have come into contact with them. Wiring heaters can be a headache for many. What happens if the voltage is connected incorrectly? How can a 220V heater be connected to 380V? These questions are common. Let's examine how to connect a 220V heater to 380V.

1. Single heater voltage 220

Heating tubes with only two terminals, such as U-shaped heaters, W-shaped heaters, and single-ended heaters, are normally rated for 220V.

If a single heater is used, a direct 220V power supply is sufficient. However, if it is connected to 380V, the power draw of the heater will triple. So why does a 220V heater triple when connected to 380V?

For example, a U-shaped heater rated at 220V and 1500W will draw power. What will happen if it is connected to 380V?

First, use the resistance formula: R = U2/P (220*220/1500 = 32.26Ω) to calculate the resistance of the U-shaped tube, which is 32.26Ω.

When the power supply voltage of this U-shaped electric heater is 380V, use the power formula: P = U2/R (380*380/32.26 = 4476.13W).

From the above calculation, we can see that the power of the original electric heater was 1500W. After connecting to a 380V power supply, the power of the U-shaped electric heater increases to approximately 4500W.

If multiple heaters are used, they can be connected in parallel to a 220V voltage. Alternatively, a Y-type (star) connection method can be used to connect to a 380V voltage. In this case, a 220V electric heater can be connected to a 380V power supply.

2. The voltage of the entire flanged electric heater set is 220V.

Flanged electric heaters are typically composed of three or multiples of three U-shaped tubes. When the voltage of the entire flanged electric heater set is 220V and connected to a 220V power supply, the U-shaped tubes can be connected in parallel.

When the voltage of the entire flanged electric heater set is 220V and connected to a 380V power supply, a Y-shaped (star) connection method should be used. If a delta connection method is used for a 380V power supply, the power consumption will also be tripled. The principle is the same as in the example above.

How to connect a 220V electric heater to a 380V power supply depends on the number of heaters and the wiring method.
