How to Determine if Color-Changing Silica Gel Has Resaturated
Leave a message
The main factors for identifying whether the color-changing silica gel has resaturated include: complete colour change, touch feeling of slightly moist and use exceeding the regular moisture absorption cycle in some environmental situations. When these symptoms are visible, it means that moisture saturation has been met and regeneration has to be done promptly.
1. Total colour change: the most direct signal of saturation
Blue Silica Gel: Changes completely from deep blue to pink or red, with no blue left;
Orange Silica Gel: Turns completely from bright orange to dark green or deep green, consistent colour without imperfections;
Key Note: If the whole colour shifting area is more than 2/3, it is called near or reached saturation.
Observation suggestion: Flip over the granules under natural light to see if there are any places that have not changed colour, so as not to make misjudgments.
2. Tactile and Physical Condition to Enable Judgement
Indicators
Performance Saturation
Feel tactile
Moist, slightly damp, almost cool
Particle Condition.
Soft, rather sticky or clumped
Weight.
Much heavier than when dry (absorbs moisture)
Note: Although the surface is dry, the inside micropores may still be saturated. The key criterion for judgement is the change in colour.
3. Auxiliary prediction of usage time and environment comparison
Scenario Description
Average Saturation Time
Suggested Inspection Schedule
Open Space (e.g. desktop, closet)
48-6 hours
Check every second day or such
Semi Enclosed Space(shoe cabinet, drawer)
1-3 days
Check every 2-3 days
Food Storage Container/Desiccant Sealed
2-8 weeks
Weekly checkup
High Humidity Environment (e.g. rainy season in Wuhan)
< 24 hours
Watch day by day
Real Test Data: In Wuhan, 50g silica gel left in a closet will take about 24-48 hours to get saturated.
4. Method of Functional Verification (Accurate Confirmation)
(1) Test Dry and Sealed
Procedure: Put the silicone gel in a sealed box with a camera, medicine etc for one week;
Judgement:
No change in colour → Keeps moisture-proof capabilities;
Colour change in a short time span → Saturated, ineffective, needs renewal.
(2) Check heating regeneration
technique: Bake according to usual technique, noting colour recovery;
Decision:
Complete recovery → Only normal absorption of moisture, can be regenerated;
Incomplete recovery or smoke → May be polluted or old, replace.
