How to Determine if PTFE Insulated Wires are High-Temperature Resistant

Based from our earlier discussion on compatibility assessment, temperature resistance testing and applicable industry norms for PTFE insulated wires used in hot runner systems, following procedures can be utilized to identify if PTFE insulated wires are high temperature resistant:

Identification and Standard Verification: Check the product label for long-term use to ensure that the temperature resistance is ≥260℃ and that the product complies with the relevant temperature resistance standards such as UL758 and GB/T5013.3.

Appearance and material judgment: Qualified high-temperature resistant PTFE insulation has semi-transparent matte surface with no noticeable strong smell. Cheap low temperature-resistant fakes are usually softer in texture and fully transparent.

Lab Testing Verification: Place the sample into 260℃ oven for continuous 72 hours baking If the insulation layer is not melted and cracked, and the insulation resistance is not obviously reduced, it is qualified.

Verification of the Operating Condition Simulation Hot runner system with 100 stepped temperature rise and fall cycles. If the wire does not become brittle and the dielectric constant does not drift substantially, the high-temperature resistance performance is confirmed to fulfill the specifications.

The preceding methods may effectively determine the high-temperature resistance of PTFE conductors, and prevent the insulation layer from aging and failing prematurely under the high temperature circumstances in hot runners.
