How to Distinguish Genuine and Imitation Hot Runner Thermocouples
Leave a message
The market for hot runner accessories is flooded with low-quality, counterfeit thermocouples that are inexpensive but have short service lives, unreliable temperature readings, and are prone to production failures. Injection molding companies and mold producers must become proficient in straightforward and efficient identification techniques. First, make a distinction between processing technique and appearance. Formal qualified hot runner thermocouples use tight welding junctions, uniform thread specifications, clean probe surfaces, exact numerical control processing, and neat, perfect wire arrangement. Imitation products, on the other hand, have low overall fineness, a rough surface, uneven welding areas, thin protective casing, and noticeable burrs on structural sections.
Second, use structural design and interior materials to identify. High-density, high-temperature-resistant insulating filler, which is compact and resistant to melting and deformation under prolonged high temperatures, is used within standard thermocouples. Cheap, common insulating materials used in inferior products soften and lose their insulating function beyond 280°C, which can easily result in an internal short circuit. While counterfeit goods have thin, common casings that are prone to aging and cracking, high-quality products have thickened anti-oxidation protective sleeves.
Thirdly, evaluate the performance of practical temperature sensing. Connect the thermocouple to a typical temperature controller for the heating test in the same high-temperature setting. Genuine items react quickly, are consistent with the infrared thermometer's real recorded temperature, have modest fluctuations, and are steady in temperature rise data. Slow temperature response, significant data swing, noticeable temperature drift after brief use, and inconsistent temperature display of repeated tests are all characteristics of counterfeit thermocouples.
Fourth, verify parameter marking and brand certification. The model specification, temperature resistance range, wire standard, manufacturing batch number, factory inspection report, and quality guaranty certificate are all prominently shown on regular supporting thermocouples of well-known hot runner brands. Incomplete parameter information, ambiguous marking, and a lack of official quality certification characterize imitation items. Additionally, consider after-sales service and service life. Under typical operating conditions, genuine thermocouples can function steadily for over 8 to 12 months with flawless replacement and maintenance services. Cheap knockoffs frequently break down in one to three months, and there is no real after-sale guaranty. The key to preventing losses from unqualified thermocouples is to choose official authorized providers and reject extremely cheap, subpar accessories.
