How to handle magnesium oxide after it absorbs moisture
Leave a message
Depending on the level of agglomeration, magnesium oxide that has absorbed moisture can be treated by physical dispersion, drying for activation, or degrading. Particles that absorb a little moisture can be employed right away after scattering. To restore activity, somewhat agglomerated particles must be dried. It is advised to downgrade severely agglomerated particles.
1. Physically dispersing and sun-drying somewhat moisturised
Features: The colour stays white or slightly whitish, the particles are readily torn apart by hand, and they are slightly sticky.
Treatment Method: Transfer the debris to a sanitised tray and use a wooden stick or sieve to gently smash it.
Avoid direct sunlight and rain and spread it out in a dry, well-ventilated area to air dry for two to four hours.
It can be used as usual once it regains its looseness.
Ideal for basic batching situations when a high level of activity is not necessary.
2. Moderately Agglomerated: Sieving + Low-Temperature Drying
Features: The colour is somewhat dark, the powder feels moist, and the clumps are somewhat hard but breakable.
Method of Treatment: First, smash big pieces and put them in a drying apparatus;
To break down the surface magnesium hydroxide and restore its activity, dry at around 150°C for one hour or, if feasible, at 500°C for four hours;
After drying, cool, seal for storage, and sieve to get rid of contaminants.
By using this technique, magnesium oxide's fluidity and chemical activity are successfully restored, allowing it to be used again in the manufacturing of chemicals or building materials.
3. Severe Cementation: Reduce to Prevent Waste
Features include a grayish-black colour, a significant loss of activity, huge areas of cementation, and hardness comparable to stone.
Suggestions for Treatment:
Not advised for high-quality manufacturing (e.g., electronic materials, precision ceramics);
may be incorporated into low-quality ingredients in little amounts;
To cut down on resource waste, get in touch with the raw material provider about recycling.
Product breaking, inadequate strength, and other issues might result from forced use in high-precision procedures.
Recommendations for moisture-proof storage (prevention is key):
Maintain a dry, well-ventilated storage space, raise the floor, and keep the humidity below 50%;
If the bag is not being used, quickly tie it tightly and seal the packaging.
Put a desiccant inside the package and use the "first-in, first-out" method to reduce storage time. Add an inner plastic film and cover the upper layer with a moisture-proof bag.
