How to judge whether the insulation performance of stainless steel electric heating band has decreased?
Leave a message
To determine whether the insulation performance of the stainless steel electric heating coil has declined, you can use professional instruments to measure it, or observe the appearance of the electric heating coil and analyze its working status for a comprehensive assessment. The specific methods are as follows:
Insulation resistance measurement
Using an insulation resistance tester to measure is the most direct way to judge the insulation performance.
Measurement steps: First, cut off the power supply of the electric heating coil, and ensure that it is fully discharged before measurement to avoid the risk of electric shock and measurement errors. Then, connect the two test probes of the insulation resistance tester to the heating wire and stainless steel shell of the electric heating coil respectively. Measure according to the operating instructions of the tester and read the insulation resistance value.
Result judgment: Generally speaking, for stainless steel electric heating coils with an operating voltage of 220V-380V, the insulation resistance value should not be less than 0.5 megohms. If the measured insulation resistance value is significantly lower than this standard, such as less than 0.2 megohms, it indicates that the insulation performance of the electric heating coil may have declined. However, the specific judgment criteria should also refer to the product manual of the electric heating coil or relevant industry standards.
Appearance inspection
Carefully observe the appearance of the electric heating coil to check whether there are any abnormal conditions such as damage, cracks, discoloration, etc. of the insulation layer.
Damage to the insulation layer: If the insulation layer is found to be damaged, such as cracks, holes or shedding, the insulation performance is likely to have been affected. Because these damages increase the possibility of the heating wire contacting the outside world, resulting in a decrease in insulation performance.
Discoloration and aging: The surface color of the insulation layer changes significantly, such as yellowing, blackening, etc., which may be caused by long-term heat or electrical aging. In this case, the performance of the insulating material may have changed, and the insulation performance may also have decreased.
Working status analysis
During the operation of the electric heating coil, observe its working status and related phenomena to assist in judging the insulation performance.
Abnormal heating: If the electric heating coil is under normal working voltage, local overheating or abnormal increase in overall temperature may occur, which may be due to the decrease in insulation performance causing the heat to be unable to dissipate normally, or due to poor insulation causing a local short circuit, thereby generating too much heat.
Leakage phenomenon: Use leakage detection equipment or observe whether there are electric shocks, tripping, etc. If there is leakage, it means that there is a problem with the insulation performance of the electric heating coil, causing the current to leak to the shell or other parts that should not be energized. For example, when the human body touches the shell of the electric heating coil, there is a numb feeling, or the circuit installed with the leakage protection device frequently trips. These may be manifestations of leakage caused by the degradation of insulation performance.
Withstand voltage test
The electric heating coil is subjected to a withstand voltage tester to further determine its insulation performance.
Test method: Connect the electric heating coil to the withstand voltage tester and test it according to the specified test voltage and time. Generally, the test voltage will be higher than the working voltage of the electric heating coil, usually 1.5 times to 2 times the working voltage, but the specific value needs to be determined according to product standards and relevant specifications. For example, for an electric heating coil with an operating voltage of 380V, the withstand voltage test voltage can be selected from 570V to 760V. During the test, observe whether the electric heating coil has breakdown, flashover, etc.
Result judgment: If the electric heating coil does not have abnormal conditions such as breakdown or flashover during the withstand voltage test, and the insulation resistance value does not drop significantly after the test, it means that its insulation performance is basically good; on the contrary, if breakdown or flashover occurs, or the insulation resistance drops significantly after the test, it indicates that the insulation performance of the electric heating coil has declined and cannot withstand voltage stress beyond the normal working voltage, and needs to be repaired or replaced.
If there is any doubt about the insulation performance judgment of the stainless steel electric heating coil, it is recommended to consult a professional electrical engineer or relevant technician to obtain accurate judgment and suggestions.
