How to prevent corrosion of silicone rubber heater?

Material selection and coating protection
Material selection:
The electrode material selection of silicone rubber heaters is crucial. For situations where they may be exposed to corrosive environments, corrosion-resistant metals such as stainless steel (such as 316L stainless steel) can be selected as electrodes. 316L stainless steel contains molybdenum, which can effectively resist the erosion of corrosive substances such as chloride ions. For silicone rubber heaters used in some marine environments or chemical equipment, this electrode material can greatly extend the service life of the heater.
For silicone rubber itself, its corrosion resistance can also be enhanced by adding special anti-corrosion additives. These additives can form a protective film on the surface of silicone rubber, or react chemically with corrosive substances to convert them into harmless substances.
Coating protection:
Applying an anti-corrosion coating on the surface of silicone rubber heaters is a common protection method. For example, ceramic coatings can be used. Ceramic coatings have good chemical stability, high temperature resistance and corrosion resistance. It can effectively isolate the silicone rubber heater from contact with corrosive media. For example, in some acidic gas environments, ceramic coatings can prevent acidic substances from corroding the heater.
In addition, fluorocarbon coatings are also a good choice. Fluorocarbon coating has extremely low surface energy, which makes it excellent in anti-fouling, moisture-proof and corrosion resistance. This coating can resist corrosion from a variety of chemicals, such as organic solvents, acid and alkali solutions, etc.
Sealing and protective structure design
Sealing design:
The edge sealing of the silicone rubber heater is the key to preventing the intrusion of corrosive substances. Use good sealing materials, such as high-temperature silicone sealant, to seal the edges of the heater well. The sealant should have good chemical resistance and temperature resistance to adapt to different working environments. In terms of design, ensure that the filling thickness and width of the sealant are sufficient to avoid gaps so that corrosive liquids or gases cannot enter the interior of the heater through the seal.
For connection parts, such as the connection point between the electrode lead wire and the silicone rubber, a special sealing structure should be used. A sealing rubber sleeve or a sealing joint can be used to completely wrap the connection part to prevent moisture and corrosive substances from entering from the connection point and damaging the internal electrical components and silicone rubber materials.
Protective structure design:
Designing a protective shell can provide additional protection for the silicone rubber heater. For example, a stainless steel shell can be used to wrap the heater, and appropriate ventilation holes or drainage holes can be opened on the shell to balance the internal and external pressures and remove possible liquids. This protective shell can block most physical impacts and chemical corrosion, and is especially suitable for harsh industrial environments.
In some special application scenarios, a double-layer protective structure can also be used. The outer layer is a corrosion-resistant metal protective layer, and the inner layer is an insulating material layer with buffering and isolation functions, which can more effectively protect the silicone rubber heater from corrosion and other damage.
Environmental control and maintenance
Environmental control:
It is important to control the humidity of the environment in which the silicone rubber heater is used. In an environment with high humidity, corrosive substances are more likely to react chemically. The environmental humidity can be controlled within a certain range by installing dehumidification equipment. It is generally recommended that the relative humidity should not exceed 60%. In some chemical production workshops or electronic equipment manufacturing workshops that are sensitive to humidity, maintaining appropriate humidity can effectively reduce the risk of corrosion of silicone rubber heaters.
For environments where corrosive gases may exist, ventilation should be carried out. Good ventilation can discharge corrosive gases in time and reduce their concentration around the heater. For example, in the electroplating workshop, a large amount of acid mist is generated. By installing strong ventilation equipment, these mists are kept away from the silicone rubber heater, thereby protecting the heater.
Regular maintenance:
Regular cleaning of the silicone rubber heater is one of the effective measures to prevent corrosion. Use a mild detergent and soft cleaning tools to remove dust, oil and other impurities from the surface of the heater. These impurities may absorb corrosive substances and accelerate the corrosion of the heater. For example, in the food processing industry, regular cleaning of silicone rubber heaters can prevent corrosion caused by acidic or alkaline components in food residues.
Regularly check the seal and coating of the heater. If the seal is found to be loose or the coating is damaged, it should be repaired in time. The sealant can be reapplied or the coating can be repaired to restore its protective function. At the same time, check whether the electrodes and electrical components have signs of corrosion. If there is slight corrosion, appropriate rust removal and protective measures can be used to deal with it.
