How to Reduce Hot Runner Start-up Material Waste

One of the main causes of higher production costs is the excess waste materials produced during hot runner start-up and temperature stabilization. There will be a lot of degraded and discolored waste materials inside the flow channel as a result of an unreasonable preheating mode and material discharge operation. Scientific operating techniques can increase the rate of raw material consumption and successfully lower start-up waste.

To prevent local overheating deterioration, start with graded slow heating. Quick one-shot heating can quickly cause partial flow channels to become overheated, carbonizing and degrading any remaining old materials. The degree of deterioration of held materials can be significantly reduced by using multi-stage temperature rise mode to heat the entire hot runner uniformly. Additionally, the initial discharged materials can be used for formal production following simple discharging rather than being thrown away.

Secondly, control the initial discharge amount in a reasonable manner. Do not carelessly release materials in big quantities once the production constant temperature has been reached. Discharge materials quantitatively section by section until the discharged melt's hue and fluidity are consistent and stable, depending on the manifold size and nozzle flow channel volume. While insufficient discharging will combine deteriorating old materials into formal products and result in damaged goods, excessive discharging will result in needless raw material loss.

Third, before shutting off, finish emptying any leftover substance and sealing storage. Before the daily shutdown, thoroughly clean the flow channel's high-temperature-sensitive materials. Seal the feed input and nozzle exit to keep moisture and air out and prevent material oxidation deterioration during standby. The internal retained materials are in good condition when production resumes, which can significantly lower the amount and complexity of start-up discharging.

Fourth, align the parameters of the start-up temperature with the properties of the raw materials. The start-up heat preservation temperature should be appropriately lowered for easily decomposed transparent materials and high-temperature engineering plastics to slow down the rate of thermal aging; the constant temperature standing time should be appropriately shortened for stable general plastics to prevent long-term high-temperature retention. Maintain the start-up temperature within the ideal stable range by working with precise real-time temperature feedback from thermocouples.

Additionally, consistently categorize and recycle qualified start-up waste items. To maximize the use of raw materials, filter out clean, undeteriorated leftovers and crush and mix them appropriately for later use. In order to achieve more cost-effective and ecologically friendly injection molding production, a number of refined processes can successfully reduce hot runner start-up material waste and enterprise raw material consumption costs.333
