The drum of the dryer is usually rotated by an electric belt assembly. There are two very obvious signs of belt failure: when the dryer is turned off, you can manually rotate the drum, or when the dryer is running, you can hear the heavy thumping sound from the drum. Here is how to test and replace the drum belt:
Step 1: Position the belt by removing the back or front service panel. Depending on the type of dryer you have, you may need to support the drum to prevent it from sagging. Do not let the drum hang; The bolts that place it in the cabinet can be damaged. Do not have more parts than necessary.
Step 2: Identify the belt. The old belt can be unscrewed around the idler pulley and motor drive shaft. Draw a diagram showing how to install the pulley so that you can replace it correctly. If the old belt is worn or worn, but will not break, leave it around the drum as a pattern for positioning the new belt; Cut on the old belt and take it out at the new belt.
Step 3: Remove the old belt from the pulley and pull the replacement belt into place. The new drive belt must extend around the dryer drum and pulley. The trick is to align the drive belt with the pulley on the drum - the ribs on the new drive belt face the drum.
Step 4: Once the belt is aligned, rotate the drum by hand, if possible, to ensure that the belt is tracking. You may have to reorganize a portion of the cabinet to perform this operation.
Some older dryers have a V-pulley drum drive. Through this system, two or three pulleys of different sizes set the speed of the drum. To change this type of belt, reduce the tension on the idler pulley and install new belts in the V-grooves of all pulleys. Then place the idler pulley back in position.
Using any dryer is absolutely sure that you replace the old belt and use a dryer that is particularly suitable for drying. Any difference in the belt can change the speed of the drum and cause problems with other drying components.
Repair roller bearings
To close using the rear service panel, check the roller shaft of the winding bearing. You may need to remove the drying belt to reach it. If the bearing appears to be worn and dirty, or if it becomes loose, it should be replaced with a new bearing manufactured for the dryer.
The screw in the center of the drum connects the shaft to the drum. Remove this component and lift the drum pulley. Support the drum to prevent it from fishing. On some dryers, the bearings and shafts are held by U-bolts, and there are two tapered blocks that support the bearings and shafts. First, remove the U-bolt and block, and remove the bearing.
When reassembling the bearing unit, ensure that the components return to the way they are separated. If the component is assembled with a gasket, the gasket should be placed between the bearing and the support channel. Do not excessively grasp the screws that grip the component; Excessive heating can cause damage to the bearings. If the bearing has a lubricating core, saturate it with automatic transmission oil.

Step 1: Remove the front of the cabinet. The roller is usually held on a metal shaft by a spring clip.

Motor failures are usually serviced by a professional call. There are three main reasons for motor failures: lack of lubrication, defective motor switches, or worn or frozen bearings. Buzzing noises can be associated with burning out a motor or defective switches. Please check these fault points before calling professional service personnel or taking the motor to the repair shop. Here is how to check the dryer motor:
Step 1: Delete the rear access panel. Then reach behind the drum, motor pulley, and idler pulley. If these areas are clogged with dirt and lint, excessive strain on the motor may cause a buzzing sound. Worn or broken belts can also cause buzzing noises. Check for worn and damaged belts. If the belt looks good, you can provide it at car and hardware stores and home centers by spraying noise with a fan shaped belt dressing.
Step 2: Turn on the dryer. The noise you hear may be the rotation of the rotating drum, not the motor. Some noise is normal.
Step 3: Apply a small amount of nondetergent motor oil (not general-purpose oil) of 20 weight to the end of the motor shaft. This lubrication may prevent buzzing noises. If this does not solve the problem, please remove the motor and take it to a professional service personnel.
The centrifugal switch on the dryer motor can be located on the top of the motor. The buzzing sound, no motor power, and no heat may be caused by a malfunction of the centrifugal switch. If switches are installed externally, check the terminals of the switch to ensure that they are tight and not burned. If you find a problem, please remove the switch and take it to a professional service personnel for testing. It may be necessary to replace the faulty switch. Some centrifugal switches are located inside the motor housing; In this case, you will not be able to delete the switch. Remove the entire motor and take it to a professional for maintenance.
Warning: Before turning the pulley, make sure to turn off the power supply to the dryer.
"If you cannot rotate the pulley, or if the pulley is difficult to rotate, the bearings in the motor may wear out.". Remove the motor and take it to a professional service personnel for repair, or replace the motor. Replacement may be cheaper than repair.
Some motors have overload protectors that shut down the motor when excessive tension is applied. Generally, there is a reset button on the control panel of the dryer. If the motor does not operate, allow the dryer to cool for about ten minutes. Then press the reset button. If the dryer still does not operate, check whether there is an overload protection device on the motor.
Use an overload protector with Volt-Ohm MilliamMeter (VOM) set to RX1 scale. Disconnect one lead from the protector and clip a probe of the VOM onto each protector terminal. If the meter reads zero, the protector is working. If the needle jumps to a high reading, the overload protector is defective and should be replaced. Unscrew the protector by prying it off or unscrewing it from the motor housing. Replace it with a new one of the same size and type, and connect the new protector in the same way.
