Low-Temperature Heat Preservation and Idle Operation Maintenance of Single-End Heating Rods

In automated industrial production, equipment often experiences idle states such as meal breaks, shift changeover and temporary shutdown. During idle periods, many operation and maintenance people will choose to totally switch off the power and cool down the mold, which seems to save electricity, but really causes more loss to single-end heating rods. Frequent total chilling and cold start will cause considerable thermal stress impact, accelerate the inner structure fatigue, greatly reduce the service life of accessories. Low temperature heat preservation operation and scientific idle maintenance are important strategies for energy conservation and loss reduction.

Very substantial full cooling and cold start damage mechanism is prevalent. When the mold has cooled down entirely to room temperature, the interior structure of the heating rod shrinks a lot. In the case of restarting full-power heating, the internal heating wire is quickly heated, and the exterior tube body is still in a low-temperature state. The significant temperature differential induces high alternating tensile and compressive stresses which lead to microcracks and fatigue damage in the interior components. Repeated cold and hot impact is the main reason of early aging and fracture of heating wires.

Low temperature heat preservation can effectively avoid the damage of thermal stress. When the equipment is idle, the mold temperature should be set to 40%-50% of the operating temperature for low power constant temperature preservation. The heating rod maintains a moderate thermal equilibrium state without substantial temperature fluctuations, and the internal and external structure is in a stable thermal expansion condition, which will not generate alternating stress fatigue. This method entirely prevents the damage of heating rod from cold start and can effectively prolong the service life.

Low-temperature heat preservation gives more comprehensive energy-saving effect. Although power-off cooling saves the instantaneous power consumption, the following cold start needs full-power lengthy heating to increase the temperature, which brings more invalid power loss. At the same time, frequent temperature rise and fall will generate mold temperature imbalance, which requires repeated process debugging, resulting in poor production efficiency. The low-temperature standby has small power consumption, steady temperature field, and no recurring debugging loss. The overall energy-saving efficiency is higher.

Idle maintenance should be carried out in conjunction with environmental protection and state inspection. During the low temperature heat-preserving standby, check the tightness of heating rod wiring connections to prevent loose virtual connection due to long-term vibration. Clean surface micro-dust and oil mist attachments to avoid delayed carbonization accumulation in low temperature state. Verify the insulation resistance value to ensure steady insulation performance inside and minimize the hidden danger of dampness.

Different idle durations mean different operation techniques. For a short-term standby within 2 hours, low-temperature heat preservation is adopted; ultra-low power heat preservation and regular temperature inspection are adopted for medium-term standby of 2-8 hours; for long-term shutdown of more than 8 hours, power-off cooling is permitted and graded preheating start is required during restart to avoid full-power cold start impact.

Low temperature heat preservation and scientific idle operation management break the traditional wrong power-off habit, effectively reduce the single-end heating rod cold and hot cycle fatigue loss, reduce the equipment failure rate caused by startup impact, and ensure the long-term stable and efficient operation of automated production lines.
