Precautions During the Regeneration of Color-Changing Silica Gel

In the regeneration process of colour changing silica gel, it is necessary to manage the temperature, prevent pollution, seal in time, and avoid rapid cooling, so as to achieve the impact of regeneration and prolong the service life.

1. Strictly control regeneration temperature (the most important)

Setting Range 1. The temperature in the use of oven must be controlled between 100-120 ℃ , steady temperature of 110 ℃ is preferred.

Avoid Overheating: The cobalt chloride indicator will dissolve and the silica gel will sinter if the temperature goes beyond 120℃, leading to inadequate colour recovery or blackening of the particles.

Avoid open flame: Do not use stoves and lighters and other heat source directly heating, easy to cause local overheating damage.

Performane drop of above 30% can be caused after 1-2 times test heating above 120℃.

2. Avoiding Contamination and Structural Damage

Keep Clean: Wash hands before use Avoid contact with oil, cosmetics, detergents etc.

Do Not Mix: Store away from hard objects or chemicals to prevent breaking of particle or absorption of dangerous substances;

Bake Flat Particle thickness ≤ 5cm to guarantee even heating to prevent the bottom layer from being under-dehydrated or the surface from being overheated.

Special reminder: If there is smoke or unpleasant smell when heated, it indicates that it is contaminated and should be sealed and disposed of as hazardous waste.

3. Must be cooled naturally and sealed immediately after regeneration

Cooling Method: Power off, put in the oven for 30-60 minutes, let the temperature drop slowly with residual heat;

Do Not Sudden Cooling: Avoid drafts, water or direct exposure to cold air to prevent micropore collapse or particle fracture;

Seal Time: Within 5 minutes after cooling, transfer to an aluminium foil self-sealing bag or a sealed container to avoid subsequent moisture absorption. Actual tests show that the efficiency of moisture absorption can be reduced by 15-20% if the sealing is delayed for more than 10 minutes.

4. Record of scientific lifespan management and utilisation status

Labelling information: Indicate the "regeneration date" and "number of uses" on the box for simple tracking;

Replacement point: If over 5 total regenerations or over 1 year usage, even if appearance is normal, replace;

blended use: Old silica gel can be blended with new silica gel to improve the overall moisture-proof efficacy.
