Regular inspection and maintenance procedures for heat tracing cables

Heating cables are used for freeze protection, condensation prevention, and temperature maintenance, belonging to the active insulation method. Generally, the insulation range of heating cables is between 0 and 200℃. Heating cable systems are widely used in various industries due to their simple structure, safety, ease of installation and operation, and adaptability to various complex environments. Applications include: snow melting and ice removal, freeze protection and insulation of pipelines and tanks, and process temperature maintenance.

Because heating cables are electric heating products, they require daily maintenance or periodic inspection after installation. The purpose of maintenance and inspection is to identify and address hidden problems, which is beneficial to the use of the heating cable and extends its service life. Heating cables have many advantages; they are simpler and safer than traditional heat tracing methods, providing more uniform heat and saving resources, making them a new generation of heat tracing equipment. Selecting the right heating cable is crucial, and regular inspection and maintenance are equally important. The following are the steps for regular inspection and maintenance:

1. After system installation, the insulation resistance of each circuit must be measured before initial use. The electric heating system should be put into operation in batches to avoid excessive starting current and potential impact.

2. When the system has been in use for the predetermined time intervals, appropriate tests should be performed.

3. Preventative checks on faulty circuits can effectively protect the normal operation of the system. The main focus should be on the protective layer. Check all protective layers on the outside of the heating cable insulation material for damage, ensure the sealant at the joints of the protective aluminum sheet is intact, and check for loose or detached insulation layers.

4. All junction boxes within the electric heating system need to be inspected. Also check the wiring points on each sleeve inside the skid and the thermostat for corrosion and moisture damage.
