If electric heating cables neglect leakage and fire prevention requirements, household use may result in electric shock or fire, endangering personal safety and property; industrial applications may violate safety regulations and face penalties. Only by implementing these two types of protection requirements in advance can risks be mitigated, ensuring both safety and compliance standards, allowing for worry-free use of heating cables.

Leakage prevention should be implemented through three aspects: selection, installation, and inspection, eliminating potential leakage hazards. Selected products must meet safety standards. For household use, choose products with 3C certification; for industrial use, choose Ex explosion-proof certified models. The insulation layer must be resistant to aging and undamaged. During installation, in damp environments (such as bathrooms or chemical plants), joints must be waterproofed and sealed, using explosion-proof junction boxes. Sharp objects must be kept away from the heating cable and pipes to avoid puncturing the insulation layer. Routine inspections should be conducted monthly. For household use, a leakage current test should be performed (no reaction when touched with a voltage tester indicates compliance); for industrial use, the value measured with an insulation resistance meter must be ≥50MΩ. A resident's heat tracing system had an improperly waterproofed connection, causing a power outage and tripping the circuit breaker during rain. A factory used uncertified heat tracing equipment with damaged insulation, leading to electrical leakage. After implementing proper selection, installation, and inspection procedures, the leakage problem disappeared.

Fire prevention requires strict control over temperature, environment, and materials to eliminate fire risks. For temperature control, a qualified thermostat is essential. For household self-regulating heat tracing systems, avoid covering them with excessively thick insulation layers. Industrial constant-power heat tracing systems must have over-temperature alarms and automatically shut off power when the temperature exceeds the limit. Regarding the environment, flammable materials (such as cardboard boxes, fabrics, and oil/gas cylinders) must not be stored around the heat tracing system. Industrial environments must be kept away from open flame work areas. For material selection, flame-retardant heat tracing systems should be prioritized, and the sheath must have a flame-retardant label (e.g., V0 rating) and be self-extinguishing in the event of a fire. A resident in a residential area wrapped their heat tracing system with multiple layers of insulation, causing localized overheating and igniting the insulation. A chemical plant's heat tracing system was located near oil/gas pipelines and lacked flame-retardant design, nearly causing a fire. Implementing these requirements significantly reduced the fire risk.

Enterprise-level applications must also comply with regulations to avoid legal risks. Industrial heat tracing must meet national standards such as "Explosive Atmospheres Part 1: General Requirements for Equipment" (GB 3836.1). After installation, it must undergo third-party testing and acceptance, and the test report must be retained. Routine maintenance requires recording inspection data, including insulation resistance and temperature controller status, which must be presented during regulatory inspections. A chemical company was ordered to suspend production and fined 200,000 yuan for lacking compliance certification and maintenance records for its heat tracing system. After implementing compliance requirements, it successfully passed the inspection and resumed normal production. Compliance is not only a safety guarantee but also a prerequisite for normal business operations.

Special scenarios have additional protective requirements and cannot be generalized. Outdoor heat tracing requires UV-protective sleeves to prevent insulation aging and leakage; buried heat tracing requires corrosion-resistant sleeves to prevent damage from soil corrosion; household heat tracing near power sources requires leakage current protection devices; and heat tracing in industrial explosion-proof areas must be grounded to form double protection. An outdoor pipe heat tracing system, lacking UV protection, aged and leaked electricity within a year; after installation, it functioned normally for three years, highlighting the crucial importance of additional protection in special scenarios.

The requirements for leakage and fire prevention in electric heat tracing tapes are crucial for safety and compliance; early implementation ensures peace of mind. Whether for residential or industrial use, from product selection and installation to maintenance, strict adherence to requirements is essential to avoid risks of electric shock and fire while meeting compliance standards.
