Short-circuit defect is the most devastating sudden failure of industrial single-end heating rods, which will directly cause power failure of equipment, paralysis of temperature control system and even burning of circuit. Most short circuit problems are not accidental but generated by the long-term buildup of hidden threats such as insulation deterioration, environmental pollution, electrical mismatch and mechanical deformation. By systematically analyzing the underlying causes of short-circuit faults and mastering the overall remedies, the short-circuit hidden hazards can be totally eliminated, and the safe and stable functioning of heating systems can be ensured.
Breakdown of internal insulation accounts for about 70% of all short circuit failures. Inside, the heating rod employs a high density magnesium oxide insulation medium to separate the resistance wire from the exterior metal tube wall. The excessive fitting gap will cause heat accumulation and local overheating, and the high temperature thermal impact will decompose the insulation medium and cause the heating wire to contact the tube wall directly, causing internal short circuit. Long-term overload operation and high-temperature dry burning will also promote insulation deterioration, and breakdown will cause short-circuit burnout.
One of the common faults in polluted workshop is short circuit caused by environmental contamination. Oil mist carbonization, metal dust accumulation and moist water vapor invasion will generate conductive layers on the surface of heating rod and wiring ends. The conductive dirt links the positive and negative wires of the power supply, causing external short-circuit failures. The most common abrupt failure in heavy oil fog and metal dust workshops is the conductive pollution short circuit, which can easily cause equipment tripping and circuit damage.
Mechanical deformation and extrusion damage induced structural short circuit. Improper installation, forced extrusion, and deformation due to impact with the mold will cause the heating rod body to bend and be extruded. The distorted internal heating wire is compressed and shifted, striking the tube wall directly and creating a short circuit. Hidden minor deformation in installation will not fail instantly, but will short and burn out after thermal expansion and vibration in operation.
Voltage overload and power imbalance cause an immediate short circuit. Random connecting of high voltage to low-voltage heating rods will generate instantaneous grid surge and the internal heating wire will melt instantaneously, resulting in a short-circuit failure. The unreasonable series-parallel connection of several heating rods may cause imbalanced load and local overload short circuit, which is a common electrical operation problem on site.
Aging of the wiring and oxidation of the virtual connection produce occasional short circuit. Long duration vibration will cause loose wiring terminals and virtual connection heating. The oxidized and carbonized wiring layer produces an uneven conducting contact, which causes intermittent short circuit and unstable power failure. This form of buried short circuit is difficult to find in everyday inspection and easy to cause frequent equipment tripping.
