Stop using this kind of phone case immediately! It might be made from discarded syringes or IV tubing, containing Group 1 carcinogens and excessive levels of heavy metals! Many people still use it constantly.

Ask everyone: Do you usually use a phone case, or do you leave your phone unprotected?
According to my observation, most people choose to use a phone case, but recently there have been quite a few issues surrounding phone cases.
Beware of this type of phone case; it might be secretly filming you.
First, a phone case with the potential for being used for secret filming sparked heated discussion.
This product, called a "reflective phone case," looks no different from a regular phone case, but costs between 300 and 800 yuan, far exceeding the price of ordinary phone cases.
Why is it so expensive?
The answer lies in this special device-a small prism is installed in the corresponding position of the phone's camera. Using the principle of light refraction, it can capture scenes from the side.
With the corresponding functional settings, it can continue recording even when the phone screen is off.
A vendor told reporters frankly that one important use of this type of product is for secret filming, and it can also be used as a cheating tool in card games. The phone can be placed flat or on its side, with the lens pointing in one direction, but the actual filming is from another direction.
Zhu Wei, an associate professor at China University of Political Science and Law, stated that in daily life, there are almost no reasonable scenarios requiring covert filming of side views. The actions of manufacturers, sellers, and users may constitute the crime of illegally producing, selling, and using specialized equipment for eavesdropping and covert photography.
Many netizens expressed their alarm at this, strongly demanding that the cases be immediately removed from shelves and thoroughly investigated.

In addition, another type of problematic phone case has recently been exposed.
Many people may have experienced the strong plastic smell of newly purchased phone cases, which becomes more pronounced when the phone heats up. This may indicate a problem with the phone case's material.
Recently, CCTV's "Financial Investigation" undercover investigation exposed that some inexpensive phone cases labeled as "food-grade" are suspected of being made from medical waste.
The source of their raw materials is shocking-discarded IV tubing and disposable syringes, which should have been centrally incinerated according to the "Regulations on the Management of Medical Waste," flowed into underground processing plants through illegal channels. After simple crushing, washing, and melting, they were mixed with inferior recycled plastics and re-injected into phone cases sold for a few yuan to a dozen yuan on e-commerce platforms.
This medical waste falls under the category of infectious waste and should be subject to strict tracking, but driven by profit, it entered the production chain of everyday consumer goods.
Furthermore, some merchants label these products with terms like "food-grade silicone" and "safe for mothers and babies," exploiting consumers' unfamiliarity with technical terms to create a sense of security. However, in reality, relevant national standards for food contact materials in my country do not apply to phone case products, and such advertising lacks regulatory basis.
An industry insider revealed, "Regular raw materials cost tens of thousands of yuan per ton, but adding waste plastics can reduce the cost by two-thirds." Besides medical waste, various recycled plastics, including electronic waste, are also used, along with cheap dyes and industrial adhesives.
Inferiorly made phone cases made in this way are prone to carrying toxic substances such as plasticizers, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), heavy metals, formaldehyde, and benzene.
Plasticizers, usually referring to phthalates, can enter the human body through skin contact and inhalation. Long-term exposure may lead to precocious puberty in children, decreased sperm quality in men, and endocrine disorders in women.
PAHs easily enter the human body through skin contact and inhalation, accumulating in the body. Long-term exposure may cause gene mutations and increase the risk of cancer.
Heavy metals, such as excessive lead content, may damage bones and affect kidney function.
Formaldehyde and benzene compounds are recognized as Group 1 carcinogens; long-term exposure can damage the nervous and hematopoietic systems.
Previously, a special risk monitoring of phone case product quality conducted by the Zhejiang Provincial Market Supervision Administration showed that the overall pass rate for phone cases priced below 10 yuan was less than 5%, with some samples exceeding the national standard limit for lead content by 30 times.
A comparative test conducted by the Shenzhen Consumer Council on 30 plastic phone cases from 28 brands revealed that one case with rhinestone glitter decoration contained lead at a rate 1550 times higher than the standard, and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) at nearly 50 times the limit.
Of the six samples submitted by CCTV, four had excessive formaldehyde levels.
Many people use their phones daily, and when palms sweat, plasticizers and heavy metals are more likely to migrate to the skin. Prolonged use or charging can also cause the phone to heat up, accelerating the release of harmful substances.
So, what kind of phone case is safer?
Prioritize liquid silicone or TPU phone cases. These materials are usually odorless and feel soft yet resilient.
Also, look for the "3C" certification mark on the packaging.
If a phone case has a pungent odor, feels excessively sticky, fades, has excessive burrs on the edges, or has sticky buttons, it is likely a low-quality case and should not be purchased.
If the phone case only has a slight plastic smell, and the smell dissipates after being ventilated for half a day, there is generally no major problem.
