Two Effective Methods for Treating Chromium Electroplating Wastewater

Ferrous sulfate and sodium bisulfite are currently common methods for treating hexavalent chromium-containing wastewater, but their treatment processes differ significantly. Through experimental research and comparative studies, researchers from the School of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering at South China University of Technology and Huaiji Dengyun Auto Parts Co., Ltd. have demonstrated that employing the appropriate method in different situations can achieve optimal overall results, providing a reference for treating chromium electroplating wastewater in production practice.

Both ferrous sulfate and sodium bisulfite can effectively treat chromium electroplating wastewater, but ferrous sulfate treatment is more economical, simple, and efficient, but it produces more sludge. Sodium bisulfite treatment has the distinct advantage of producing less sludge, but is slightly more expensive and takes longer than ferrous sulfate treatment.

Because the ferrous sulfate method does not require pH adjustment before treatment and is highly efficient, it is more suitable for continuous treatment of large volumes of wastewater. The sodium bisulfite method, while taking longer and more complex, produces less sludge and is more suitable for small electroplating plants with moderate wastewater volumes requiring regular treatment.
