What are the key considerations when choosing a temperature monitoring instrument?

To guaranty both calibration accuracy and cost-effectiveness, consider these four crucial factors when choosing a temperature monitoring device for hot runner calibration:

1. Channel Count and Synchronous Acquisition Requirements: Give priority to models that have two or more channels for simultaneous acquisition. To prevent further variations brought on by time-sharing acquisition discrepancies, it must enable simultaneous acquisition of the temperature of both the standard thermocouple and the sensor being calibrated. Select a 4–8 channel model to increase calibration efficiency if multi-cavity hot runners must be calibrated simultaneously.

2. Accuracy and Compatibility Index criteria: To satisfy the hot runner calibration accuracy criteria, the accuracy must be ≥0.1°C. It is not advised to have accuracy below 0.2°C. At least the K and J types of hot runner index numbers must be supported. To prevent sensor incompatibility, it must also support PT100 platinum resistance thermometers when measuring cold junction temperature.

3. Functional Compatibility Considerations: Give models with automated cold junction temperature correction top priority. This simplifies calibration and directly outputs precise temperature measurements, doing away with the need for human computations. Data traceability and compliance with quality system audit standards are made possible by data storage/export functionality, which adds convenience. Although it's not required, a basic model can be selected.

4. Use Scenarios: Production workshops are the primary locations for hot runner calibration. Give preference to portable handheld devices because they are more flexible than desktop calibration tools and don't need a huge power source. They may also be used close to the mold. A high-precision desktop model is adequate for long-term laboratory calibration.

In conclusion, selecting a device with "2-channel synchronous acquisition, accuracy ≥0.1℃, K/J indexing support, and handheld portability" for hot runner calibration will fully satisfy your requirements and provide the optimum cost-performance ratio.
