Why Hot Runner Nozzle Thermocouples Are More Vulnerable to Damage
Leave a message
Because of their unique installation location and challenging working conditions, nozzle thermocouples in the full set of hot runner temperature measurement systems have a much higher failure rate and damage probability than manifold thermocouples. They are also prone to age, wear, corrode, and break ahead of schedule in actual production.
First of all, the nozzle area has the highest frequency of temperature change since it is closest to the mold cavity and plastic exit. In order to accomplish rapid temperature adjustment during each injection cycle, the nozzle temperature must cooperate with injection pressure and material flow. Frequent cold and heat alternation causes severe thermal fatigue of thermocouple core wires, significantly accelerating the rate of internal material aging.
Second, nozzle thermocouple probes are immediately exposed to the impact and scouring of plastic particles and different filling additives due to their proximity to the fast-moving melt. The metal body and protective coating of the probe are continuously worn down by long-term physical friction, particularly in the manufacturing of glass fiber modified plastic. This wear is significantly more severe than that of manifold parts. In the meantime, strong corrosive gas erodes the detecting head year-round, and the volatile gas produced by melt breakdown is concentrated closest to the nozzle gate.
Thirdly, the internal structural architecture of hot runner nozzles is dense and the installation space is small. Due to their tiny depth and complicated angle, the reserved mounting holes can easily result in inadequate installation contact and poor heat conduction. Additionally, the nozzle position can easily result in a small displacement and mechanical extrusion during the mold opening, closing, and thimble movement processes, damaging the built-in thermocouples through bending extrusion.
Additionally, a wider temperature fluctuation range results from the nozzle heating zone's higher heat concentration and faster heat dissipation speed. Here, thermocouples must maintain high-sensitivity functioning for an extended period of time with a higher operating load. Because nozzle thermocouples are easily damaged, businesses should choose improved high-strength customized models when purchasing them, reduce the frequency of routine inspections and replacements during daily use, and strengthen dust-proof, anti-corrosion, and anti-wear protection to lower the likelihood of vulnerable parts failing and preserve the overall stable operation of the hot runner temperature control system.
