Causes, consequences, and solutions for wall adhesion in spray dryers

The main causes of wall sticking in spray dryers are as follows:
1. Clogged spray nozzles or worn spray blades prevent the slurry from being atomized effectively, resulting in poor atomization and slow drying within the spray chamber, thus causing wall sticking.
2. Insufficient inlet air temperature prevents the atomized slurry from drying quickly within the tower, leading to wall sticking.
3. Poor sealing at the tower entrance and spray nozzles allows cold air to be drawn into the tower, causing excessive localized temperature drops and resulting in wall sticking.
4. Air leakage in the lower cone's flap feeder can also cause wall sticking at the lower cone.
The consequences of wall sticking in spray dryers are mainly as follows:
1. Material stuck to the inner wall for an extended period may scorch or deteriorate, affecting product quality.
2. Sticking material may block the bottom of the dryer, preventing the product from reaching the required moisture content.
3. Due to the clumping of material adhering to the walls and falling into the product, some products may require a longer grinding process to achieve a certain fineness.
4. To remove the adhering material, additional spray drying operations may be needed, thus shortening the actual operation time.
5. If the wall adhesion is severe, the spray dryer may be unable to start production.
To address the wall adhesion problem in spray dryers, the following five solutions can be tried:
1. Use an inter-wall drying tower to cool the air inside the container, keeping the container wall temperature below 50 degrees Celsius to reduce material adhesion.
2. Use cyclone vanes to introduce air a second time, further cooling the tower wall to prevent wall adhesion caused by rapid temperature changes.
3. Install a row of nozzles near the tower wall to form an air broom; the air broom effect will peel off the material adhering to the tower wall.
4. Add a small air hammer to the tower wall; mechanically tapping the material will quickly remove it.
5. Increase the precision of industrial equipment and polish the inner wall to reduce material adhesion and make it easier for the material to fall off.
