How can a small thermocouple accurately sense temperature changes?

Thermocouples are a common temperature measurement device that works based on the Seebeck Effect. When two different metal conductors are connected into a closed loop and the two connection points are at different temperatures, an electromotive force is generated in the loop, forming an electric current. This phenomenon is called the thermoelectric effect, and thermocouples use this principle to measure temperature.

Main features of thermocouples

1. Temperature range: Thermocouples can measure from very low temperatures (such as -200°C) to very high temperatures (such as 1700°C), depending on the type of thermocouple.

2. Fast response: Due to the simple structure of thermocouples, they can respond quickly to temperature changes.

3. Strong durability: Thermocouples are usually made of high temperature and corrosion resistant materials, suitable for harsh environments.

4. Low cost: Compared with other temperature sensors, thermocouples are cheaper and easier to replace.

Applications of thermocouples

1. Industrial process control: such as temperature monitoring in industries such as oil refining, chemical industry, and metallurgy.

2. Scientific research: high-precision temperature measurement in laboratories.

3. Household appliances: temperature control of equipment such as ovens and water heaters.

4. Aerospace: temperature monitoring in extreme environments.

5. Energy industry: temperature monitoring of boilers and nuclear reactors.
