How Long After Solution Treatment Can Machining Be Begin?

From our earlier examination of the solution treatment method for hot runner stainless steel bolts and the machining procedures for different materials, it becomes apparent that the machining periods for different workpiece materials are differentiated:

304/316 Austenitic Stainless Steel Bolts: Solution treated and quenched in water, then cooled to room temperature (about 15-30 minutes) ready for immediate machining without further delay, the austenitic structure remains stable.

Batch Precision Machining Scenarios: Allow an extra 12 hours of natural placement to relieve trace residual stress, avoiding slight dimensional deviation in precision thread machining. This is an optional optimization step.

Solution treated Inconel high temperature alloy bolts cannot be machined directly. The whole age procedure is necessary to prevent the thread accuracy deformation caused by aging precipitation, and the bolts should be cooled to room temperature before the next machining.

Hot machining is absolutely forbidden in an effort to avoid the introduction of fresh machining stress which can cause loosening and failure under future hot running conditions.
