How to Determine if Color-Changing Silica Gel Has Been Fully Restored After Regeneration
Leave a message
The primary indicators for judging if the regenerated color-changing silica gel has been entirely restored are: whether the colour is restored uniformly; whether the physical condition is dry and loose; and whether it can stably retain a dry state in a sealed environment. Its activity can be proven if these requirements are met.
1. Colour Restoration: The Most Direct Criterion for Judging
Blue Silica Gel Should have gone back from pink/red to deep blue with no localised grayish-white, dark red or mottled regions.
Orange Silica Gel: Should be totally recovered from dark green/green to bright orange, uniform and transparent colour;
Important Notes to Judge: If there are still some parts that haven't changed colour, it means the moisture within is not entirely removed; Dull or greyish colour may suggest ageing or contamination;
Signs of success: uniform overall colour, high saturation, similar to new silica gel.
2. Physical Condition: Testing the Building's Structure
Table indicators Normal performance Abnormal
Sense.
Dry, separated particles Not sticky Wet, clumped, softened or powdery
Flowability
Hardened, clumped Particles roll freely
Honesty
No evident breaking or powdery lots of debris, easily crushed.
If the particles are powdered or clumped, the adsorption capacity has been considerably diminished, even if the colour recovers, and it is not suggested to continue to use it.
3. Moisture Resistance Test (Real): Functional Verification
(1) Method of Exposed Sealed Environment
Operation: Put the regenerated silica gel into a sealed food storage box, add a tiny cup of warm water (simulating a humid atmosphere) into the box and let it stand for 24 hours;
Decision:
The colour moves slowly from blue to pink (or from orange to green) => Function of absorption of moisture is normal and has been restored;
No colour change or quick full colour shift → Unreliable operation, failure of response.
(2) Curing and Sealing Method
Operation: After regenerating, let cool naturally in an oven with the power off for 30-60 minutes, seal and store within 5 minutes.
Assessment:
No discolouration in one week → indicates full regeneration and good sealing;
Short amount of time → Discolouration → Can be a sign of poor regeneration or storage.
Special Reminder: In high need places such as photography, pharmaceutical, electronic products, it is recommended to do a functional test after each regeneration.
4. Suggestions on Use and Avoidance of Risk
Record Regeneration Times: Mark information such as "regenerated 3 times Performance drops very sharply after more than 5x.
Prevent Recontamination: Store in a sealed, designated bag away from cosmetics, lubricants, etc.
Cobalt-Containing Silica Gloves: Use gloves in operation, avoid contact with youngsters and accidental consumption.
Practical Tips: Mix a tiny amount of regenerated silica gel with new silica gel to boost the overall moisture-proof efficiency.
